Lovely location, comfortable rooms and welcoming hosts
I have just stayed at Riverside Cottages for a couple of nights and can recommend it very highly.
We had a great room with a huge balcony which has a fantastic view of the river Torridge. The breakfasts were great with home grown eggs, bacon and sausages and homemade bread. The owners were really friendly and welcoming (without being in your face).
Normally, I would leave my review at that, but there are some other points worth mentioning:
The owners keep a variety of animals and the guest information describes both the owners and their animals in great detail, and I couldn't help being charmed by this (especially the mischievous miniature Donkey), and we had a stroll around the garden to meet the chickens, goats and the donkey - plus a few interloping seagulls who seemed to be tucking in with the chickens).
The shared guest room (where we also breakfasted) was very comfortable with a great view of the river. Apart from breakfast, we didn't get around to using this room, but I did notice that it had a very nice guitar and a sax for anybody who fancied an impromptu jam!
The bedroom was clean and tidy, and there were some very nice touches. As well as having a well stocked tea and coffee station there was a flask of fresh milk (with more in the fridge in the dining area). The Freeview TV was of decent quality and was more than adequate. The room was reasonably well decorated with a thick carpet, decent armchairs and a very comfortable bed. The room heating was also excellent (I bring a fan heater with me when staying at B&B's in the UK as I have had terrible experiences in the past, but it stayed in the car on this occasion).
The bathroom was also clean and tidy, and had reasonable amounts of soaps and shampoos etc. The power shower was excellent (there was no bath in the balcony room).
The only minus is the main road. Whilst the view of the river is outstanding (it's tidal at this point and there is a huge amount of birdlife, so it didn't get boring during our stay), the front of the B&B is situated on a quite busy road which was quite noisy at times.
One more note - the Wifi was free, but only worked on one side of the room. Also, I was unable to connect to my home VPN whilst using it, but since I was only there for 2 days and could connect happily using 3G from Bideford, it wasn't a serious issue.
Anyway - all in all, I would thoroughly recommend this B&B to anybody needing to stay near Bideford for a few days.

Watch herons at breakfast time
Sad only to stay one night. Super big, well decorated, spotlessly clean room and bathroom with balcony looking on to river, with woodland beyond. Exceptionally welcoming proprietors. Great breakfast served in front of large window overlooking the river, with binoculars provided to watch herons feeding.

Weekend break
Really nice place and owners. They clearly care about the guest's experience and the setting and rooms are ideal for relaxation and comfort. The various animals (donkey, goats, chickens, geese and pigs) are also delightful - the breakfast is therefore entirely organic with a view over the river that is a perfect start to the day.

Very welcoming hosts and lovely comfortable room with balcony overlooking the river. Breakfast was delicious with home produced bacon, sausages and eggs. Would definitely return and recommend to friends. We enjoyed meeting the dogs, goats, hens and the friendly donkey.

Very enjoyable couple of days at Riverside Cottage. Only one thing we would liked to have had a choice of some softer pillows (feather).

Perfect
From the moment we arrived and were greeted by Donna until the moment we left we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had the balcony room and can only say that it was perfect, beautifully clean with everything you could think of and with a view that changes each time you look out of the window as the tide goes in and out. Freshly baked bread greets you in the morning with plentiful choice for breakfast. We highly recommend a stay here, you will not be disappointed. We will definitely be visiting again. Thank you Donna and Simon for letting us share your beautiful house, perfect hosts!
