On arrival we were told that the breakfast we had paid for in advance was 'continental' and we would have to pay another £3 per person for cooked breakfast.
I feel it would be more honest to state this at time of booking and not spring it on you as an 'extra' on arrival. I heard other guests in the dining room say the same thing as staff went round asking guests for 'another £3 please'. We heard that phrase a lot during our one night stay. Second thing was on arrival reception tried to charge us £2.50 for paying with credit card. Again, I saw no mention of this at booking time and it's not something I have ever been asked for in other hotels. So, the reason that we will not go back to this hotel is that we got the feeling from the first moment we arrived that we were being asked for more money than we thought the hotel would cost. I found it a bit petty. Also the continental breakfast was very basic and included one if my pet hates in hotels, orange juice that was either watered down or of very poor quality. Again it seemed petty. Room was clean but a bit cramped, reception was unmanned a couple of times when we went there. Waiting staff were very pleasant and efficient but I eventually told them I was vegetarian so I would stop being told 'it's only £3 to upgrade to cooked breakfast'. We won't be back.
Nice staff, great location.
Friendly Hotel on outskirts of city
Friendly staff at reception made us most welcome.
The room was clean & comfortable although a bit dated. Nice sized bed which was comfortable. Room was quiet even though it was facing main road. Bathroom was a bit cramped but again very clean. Breakfast was satisfactory. For location, parking & convenience we would use again
Budget Business Trip
No lifts , old carpets , wires covered in plastic extension , shower only had a drizzle of water , toilet wouldn't flush.
Also under - staff for breakfast . Also it would not state that parking had extra £6 charge .on the bright side , bathroom looked warm with the wood interior , like spa room, room was warm and felt specious. Also the reception helped us with taxi , and advice of where to head for quick shopping
Kelvin Hotel West End
All staff were very accommodating and helpful, very pleasant and polite.
The room was very clean had all basic essentials only downfall was there was no en-suite which wasn't a big problem as bathroom and shower facilities were within a short distance and very clean.
I have stayed at the Kelvin Grove many times over the years but this time was in a new room.
Room was very basic and the remote control for the television did not work. Guy from front desk was very prompt to come and repair it and it did last for 1 hour but then it broke again and this time there was no repair. He went and got another but still didn`t work so spent the night getting in and out of bed to change the channel. Reception guy was excellent. Then at breakfast tried telling me only entitled to continental breakfast even though was told it was full breakfast. Done it in front of other customers and made me feel very uncomfortable and embarrassed.
The staff are very helpful with all aspects of your stay , hotel very clean,
We had a very good stay would recommend this hotel to anybody, Steve at reception is the perfect man for the job so helpful and friendly he made you feel at home , and his knowledge of the surrounding area was exceptional.
