Best of both worlds
The hotel is just outside the centre of Amsterdam but less than 5 minutes from the best tram line of the area - 20 minutes and you're right in the city, trams run until past midnight.
On the other hand, the hotel is within walking distance of the best and largest park, surrounding countryside, the Amstel riverside, peaceful suburbs (no late night revelers disturbing your sleep) and the lovely shopping centre of Amstelveen (where all the 'Dammers' want to retire too).
The hotel rents bikes which makes exploring even easier. The room was clean and comfortable with a choice of pillows, the bathroom was lovely with a huge shower.
The only thing I'd improve is the breakfast, which was great but not perfect. A choice of cooked meats and veg (e.g. tomatoes, mushrooms, bacon, scrambled eggs) would have been lovely, although not really the standard fare outside UK and the USA. And, as the name says, this is a Holiday Inn EXPRESS. I'd recommend this hotel and would definitely stay again.
Short Break In Amsterdam
A great hotel, really friendly, well organised and helpful, showed us how to use trams etc, provided with tickets for 48 hours (12 Euros) provided us with maps and gave us confidence to head off to do our thing.
Allowed us early access to our rooms so we could head off early to see the sights. Good variety of food in the inclusive breakfast - great!
