Reviews - The Valley of Rocks Hotel

3Self Classified Hotel Ratings explained
Lee Road , Lynton, EX35 6AB
The Valley of Rocks Hotel located in the picturesque village of Lynton on the North Devon Coast, this early Victorian Hotel retains many aspects of its original charm. There is an impressive atrium in the lounge, where entertainment is provided most evenings. It is located within Exmoor National Park, in the heart of the village of Lynton, overlooking the twinned village of Lynmouth, known as Little Switzerland. The Villages are linked by a masterpiece of early engineering, The Cliff Railway, built in 1890. There are good local amenities and stunning scenic walks only minutes away. All rooms in the hotel are en suite with many enjoying scenic views of the Bristol Channel to Wales. The Valley of Rocks is the ideal location for walkers or those who simply wish to explore the natural beauty of the surrounding areas.

The Hotel's onsite parking is very limited and charged at a rate of £5 per/vehicle per/day, this is subject to availability upon arrival and cannot be pre-booked. There is a public car park nearby and street parking is also available.

One Night Stay
Upon entering the hotel, I was struck by the 'shabbiness' of the entrance lobby and the general dated appearance of the main entertainments room and I was filled with trepidation as to what the room we were going to stay in was going to be like. I was thinking that i should have paid more and chosen one of the more expensive hotels in Lynton. When we entered the room we had a pleasant surprise as the room had obviously been redecorated and the bathroom/shower were obviously relatively new the curtains, bedspreads, duvet covers were all immaculately clean and the only problem with the room was the smell of paint ( but that was livable although there was not an opening window.. The corridors etc. were all very shabby, but we did have a view out to sea, which also overlooked the churchyard, which was very pretty. The breakfast was outstanding everything - cooked as requested service at breakfast was very, very good. So all in all Excellent value for money. I would return again. Especially as the hotel is due for a full refurbishment early next year.

Rocky!
No doubt a fine hotel in 1907, but no longer. Interior alterations have ruined it. Communal areas, corridors, etc were dirty, in need of decoration, and smelled of smoke. Our room was recently refurbished and clean (or else we would not have stayed), but the bathroom was poorly layed out and cramped. Fittings coming off wall. Food was vey basic, and only warm. Limited meal times. No hot water on second day, and very cold dining room
