Reviews - The Sun Inn

3Self Classified Inn Ratings explained
Pooley Bridge, Ullswater , Penrith, CA10 2NN
The Sun is a family run establishment. Sunny by name and by nature, this is one of the most friendly and cheery hostelries in the region. It is a sizeable whitewashed building with black framed windows, which in summer are draped with vibrantly coloured hanging baskets. Inside, the décor is simple and warm with low beamed ceilings, wooden tables and chairs and wood paneled walls and bar.
It has a spacious beer garden and a grassy area at the rear with a fantastic wooden childrens play fort. It also has its own car park, which is strictly for patrons.

Lovely location and cosy pub/hotel
Good accommodation in a very beautiful location. Good room with large en-suite. Excellent restaurant food with bar food option. Cosy bar with log burner.
Enjoyed our stay.

One Night Stay
The gentleman I met at reception was very helpful by taking my bags to the room and ensuring all was well before he left. However, after that my stay did go downhill. No mobile phone reception at all and limited wi-fi in the bar only (I appreciate this is not the proprietor's fault but did make my stay stressful). Bar was very uncomfortable to eat in and I didn't enjoy food - lasagne was tasteless and fruit crumble stone cold in centre. I was very disappointed as the other reviews had praised the food, maybe it was just a bad day? Breakfast fine and tasty though. Room clean and well enough appointed - shower fantastic and would blast you into next week!

very good value
Robust well cooked food, good beers, great toilets. Friendly staff. Rooms of a quality that would cost more at other hotels. Will definitely stay here again.

great staff and stay, don't scrimp on the portion sizes!
The best thing about the stay was the food - portions werte large and reasonably priced for the area. Absolutely delicious, especially pudding and breakfast. The whole place was well cleaned and decorated. Some of the decor was starting to show wear i.e. tile grout. the only slight downside was that it was quite cold. The building is old and single-glazed and the curtains, while they look lovely, don't do much to keep the heat in.

Good basic single room
The single room was ideal for a short rambling break by someone who didn't intend to spend much time in the room, wanted breakfast and evening meal, and didn't want to pay a fortune. The proprietor and staff couldn't have been friendlier. No complaints whatever.
