Reviews - The Windermere Hotel

3Self Classified Hotel Ratings explained
KENDAL ROAD , WINDERMERE, LA23 1AL
Perfectly situated on a hilltop overlooking the quaint village of Windermere and the beautiful surrounding areas, The Windermere Hotel boasts stunningly decorated public areas including a comfortable lounge and adjacent bar as well a spacious and elegant dining room and comfortable bedrooms with everything you would expect in a modern establishment.
Our location set high above the town of Windermere gives us beautiful views over the lake, guests can stroll into the town and, for the more energetic, the lake itself is just a 20 minute walk.

Originally called the Riggs Windermere Hotel, named after Thomas Rigg who built it in 1847, the hotel opened at the same time as the railway from Oxenholme to Windermere. The hotel name has changed but the hotel and railway station remain and greet most visitors on their way to Windermere. A recent refurbishment of the bar and restaurant has left us a really warm modern look that returning guests love, but the hotel still retains a lovely old feel, true to its railway heritage.

Good value
Considering that all hotels are expensive in the lake district, the Windermere was quite a bargain.
The room was basic but very clean, all in all a very nice comfortable four days away
We recommend this hotel for its position at the top of the hill overlooking the town & the price.

Right on the money!
A fantastic hotel with great views of the lake and accommodating staff. Well placed at the top of the town and just a short walk away from some truly spectacular views up on Orrest Head!

Windermere Hotel,Cumbria
This hotel was very nicely decorated and warm which alas in the winter is not always so at other hotels we have stayed at. The staff were friendly and helpful and the bar was open till eleven which again was a pleasant suprise and though we only had breakfast there the food was very good.

Really friendly and helpful staff. Excellent quality food in pleasant surroundings. Excellent parking, which is rare in the lakes. Comfortable rooms with good en-suite and plenty of hot water.

A good choice
The beds were so comfortable and the linen and towels very fresh and clean. Altogether a charming hotel with bright, happy and helpful staff. I'm now looking forward to a return visit.

Nice hallway but that is as far as it went
No wifi in room, no heating in room, very poor decor, poor service, no bar food in the evening.
A hotel that caters for bus parties and has little time or service for anyone out with this or under 70.
Very disappointed and will certainly never go back.

Average but adequate stay
For what I paid, £50, it was adequate. Lovely view from room at front of hotel and the room had been modernised, tastefully. Shower was awful - no pressure and I couldn't get under it properly for the handle screwed onto tiles to aid less able residents. Think the floor was missed off the cleaning schedule. Breakfast was an d pertinence. Very polite staff. Toast was cold, sent it back and it came back just the same. Cooked breakfast was also sent back as it arrived cold in parts - I found it tasteless and didn't eat it. For price and location - value for money and staff were lovely. Certainly caters for older clientele, and bus trips.
