Definitely would recommend

Extremely friendly staff, internal d├ęcor furniture and equipment all of a high standard.

Nice bar, restaurant and a quiet location on the outskirts of the City- very handily placed away from the inner-city hustle and bustle. Enjoyable freshly cooked breakfast on departure. All in all a very enjoyable stay.

Jacobean: the era of the last refurb.

The positives first: The continental section of the breakfast was fine.

The English side was ok and coffee was plentiful. The staff were friendly. The hot water was exactly that. The hotel was convenient, with adequate parking. All credit should be given to the photographer, as the pictures paint the best possible light on an otherwise tired and dilapidated hotel. The negatives:

It needs an overhaul, which I was informed is happening, gradually. Unfortunately, our stay got off to a poor start, with nobody on reception and no method for calling anyone. After summoning the bar maid , we were given a key on a makeshift ribbon, as apparently the last customers had walked off with the normal key. This was not considered a security risk. The room itself was fine, although a little dark. However, it did look like the cleaner had got tired and sat on the bed after making it.

The last page of the information booklet for the hotel had mould growing inside the plastic sleeve. The bathroom was in dire need of refurbishment and in fact a good clean. There were black mould spores on the ceiling. Tiles around the shower were loose. The taps seemed to have 3 settings: off, trickle or Niagara. The tap/shower attachment should be in a museum, or some hipster's kitsch-laden house. The quality of the cooked breakfast ingredients was poor. It should take pride in local producers and get high quality, locally sourced products instead of what seemed to be budget supermarket products. So, in essence, not the greatest stay. after its refurbishment, it may be a good place to stay: however that needs to happen soon.

This hotel is run with customer care and satisfaction.

The staff went out of their way to make sure everything was in order for my daughter and they are so friendly.

Good value

Booked late which is the point of site and got cheap room with breakfast and parking.

Lady who greeted me was excellent and really friendly. Room was ok although bathroom needs redecorating.

Basically cheap room with hot shower, comfortable bed and a good fry up.

Look elsewhere first

The public areas have been refreshed, but as soon as you go through the doors to the bedrooms you are in a time warp.

I was in room 35. The chinz wall paper is grey and stained. The pink carpet is thread bare. The bathroom has cracked wall tiles, missing grout, a mixer shower that runs off the taps. The room has not been decorated in years. Even the hotel room folder is ripped in half to try and disguise the fact it has changed names some time ago. Cleanliness is very poor!

Return to home Town

The stay was perfect for our needs.

The staff were friendly, efficient and helpful at all times. Our room was in need of refurbishment. The bathroom tiles were broken and the edging round the bath a bit unsightly however from the look of the some areas of the the Hotel a refurbishment is underway so only a matter of time the room back to what it should be. Overall well worth a visit
