4Self Classified Bed and Breakfast Ratings explained
Dowfold House, Low Jobs Hill, , Crook, DL15 9AB
Jill & Rupert Richardson (not to mention our dog and two cats...) look forward to welcoming you to this lovely, comfortable Victorian house with its delightful gardens, which was recently recognised as the Bed & Breakfast of the Year, at the North East Tourism Awards 2011. As a small, high-quality bed and breakfast establishment, we aim to provide a comfortable, welcoming - and peaceful - home for you to enjoy; and we do GREAT breakfasts! - full of local produce. As a recent, regular, guest put it: “Jill & Rupert at Dowfold House are a class act. They offer bed and breakfasting in grand style, but somehow make it friendly and intimate.” It's a brilliant encapsulation of all that we try to do - and I half-wish I'd thought of it myself, although it sounds better from a third-party. Our rooms are comfortable and well-equipped, all with ensuite facilities, while our home & gardens offer plenty of opportunity for relaxation - or wickedly competitive croquet! Guests love it here. We're proud of our Bed & Breakfast's green credentials, but intensely aware we need to do more. "Green, but without the hair shirt" is our motto. You can find prices and booking information HERE. And, from Dowfold House Bed & Breakfast, there's plenty to do. From railway rides to walks & cycle rides; from gardens to more strenuous pursuits. There's something for everyone. Dowfold House Bed & Breakfast is in a quiet location overlooking Crook, with stunning views over Weardale as far as the North Pennines. We welcome business visitors, tourers, cyclists, walkers, dogs, horses [NEW] and children. People just keep coming back! Crook is an ideal, peaceful, place to stay when visiting the North East of England. The City of Durham is a 20 minute drive away and our Bed & Breakfast accommodation is close to the A68, a major route to and from Scotland. Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland and the Durham Coast are all within easy reach of our Bed & Breakfast accommodation, while C

Business stay
I stayed at Dowfold House for one night but will certainly stop here again next time I am in the area. The hosts were very hospitable with a coffee and shortbread when signing in and choosing my breakfast menu for the following morning. The room was ideal and the breakfast was excellent - best quality food and service.

Best B&B I've Ever Stayed In
Its the first time I have ever stayed in a B&B where I have been sent a welcome email from the owners thanking me for the booking and asking if I needed anything.
When I arrived I was greeted by the owner and made tea, given home cooked cakes and an explanation on the B&B, layout of the house and gardens etc.
The room was extremely clean and really very well laid out for a traveller, the bathroom was also lovely and had a double walk in shower, brilliant.
The breakfast was fantastically cooked and the service swift.
The entire experience was both professional and relaxing.
I cant recommend this B&B enough. Stay here you wont be disappointed.

Excellent
This guest house is well worth a visit. Hosts are very welcoming, offering little extras e.g. toasted hot cross buns at Easter on arrival. A pure delight and gratefully received. Also little Easter eggs in room was a pleasant addition. A good choice of quality food at breakfast. The room was spotlessly clean, comfortable and warm with splendid views. The guest lounge has a book display to suit all tastes. Wish we could have stayed longer.

2 night stay at Dowfold.
took a while to find but is only 9 miles from Durham so ideally located but in a lovely rural setting. Family home which manages to combine all ameties and facilites required by guests, felt totally at home,my needs always anticipated before i even thought of them.
Lovely cosy room (red room) fantastic shower and bedlinens and great white towels. Fabulous view from my window ,and it was lovely to sit in the back garden whilst having a cuppa on arrival.
Jill and Rupert are ideal hoteliers as nothing is too much trouble for them.Rupert the cook does a mean breakfast, and the choice is wonderful.
Would definately go back again..............

Thanks for the kind words.  We're glad you enjoyed your stay, and your comments are absolutely on the button.  When the weather is as good as this, there are few better places to be than in our garden, drinking tea!
