Reviews - River View Bed & Breakfast

3Self Classified Bed and Breakfast Ratings explained
River View Bed & Breakfast, Park Wynd, Millgate, Richmond, DL10 4JS
Set in the heart of ‘ye olde’ Richmond this uniquely positioned Edwardian bed and breakfast boast spectacular views of the river Swale and waterfall to one side and a centrally placed view of the castle and its magnificent castle keep to the other.

The house is set into the hillside and the breakfast room, on the lower ground floor, leads on to a paved terrace, surrounded by orchards, hills, escarpments and the fast flowing River Swale as it meanders its way from Keld in upper Swaledale.

Only 3 minutes walk from the centre of Richmond, and overlooking the Coast to Coast path on the opposite side of the river, the Sunday Times had to concede ‘one of the 10 best places to live’ in England.

Surrounding us is Richmond, with its spectacular beauty, many lovely walks and an excellent choice of restaurants as well as shopping facilities.

The adjoining countryside, Swaledale and Wensleydale, offers some of the most interesting and panoramic scenery in England with its stone medieval villages, picturesque and untainted.

River View has two Victorian styled bedrooms, each with modern everyday comforts.
Care is taken that guests feel welcomed and comfortable, with thought and attention given to décor which offers both an aesthetic and healing quality to the house as a whole.

Facilities include:
Two double bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms
Tea & coffee making facilities
Colour TV
Free car parking outside or close by house
Free Wi-Fi available
Riverside and Castle walks on doorstep
Walker & cyclist friendly (Packed lunches/Drying facilities)
The B&B offers, where possible, organic food locally sourced and produced with vegetarian and full English breakfast catered for.

Tariff including Breakfast:
Double Room - £75 per room per night
Single occupancy of a Double Room - £45 per room per night

We were very welcomed at River View and found the accommodation comfortable and our hosts very friendly and helpful. The views across the river and of the castle were lovely. The house was very central to the town and it was useful to have parking outside. The location was also very good for accessing the Dales. We had a vey enjoyable few days away.

A warm welcome in the heart of the old town with wonderful river views from my room
I arrived later than anticipated on a cold wet Friday evening to a warm welcome from proprietor Jill who kindly offered me tea and cake on arrival. A true Yorkshire welcome. My room was fairly cold but I assured Jill it was preferable for me as a sleeping environment but she still showed me how to increase the level of heating if I needed it and I will admit to raising the radiator thermostat a notch in the morning! The bed was warm, clean and comfortable and I enjoyed an excellent night's sleep with the soothing sound of the river Swale tumbling over stones beneath my rear facing top floor window - no risk of flooding here! The double room was compact and the restricted head room may be an issue for tall people but not for me being of average height and occupying the room on a single basis. Lovely clean en-suite shower room with plenty of hot water and soft towels. Breakfast was an organic feast of perfectly cooked scrambled eggs and mushrooms (my choice from what seemed a limitless supply off the traditional English breakfast menu) accompanied by yoghurt, freshly baked bread, pastries, fresh fruit, fruit juice, cereals, topped off by Jill's delicious homemade preserves and copious amounts of hot freshly made coffee. A thoroughly enjoyable overnight stay and for me.

Our time spent at the riverside.
The hoteliers at the riverside were very nice and accommodating. On our arrival my partner and i we enjoyed tea and home made cake, a chat about what was on in the area and places to eat out which was very helpful.
The stairs to the attic room proved to be a challenge and the room itself I found to be a bit small. It had the disadvantage of a sloping ceiling which depending on your height caused problems negotiating around the bed.
The breakfast was well presented and the home made jams were an unexpected treat.
We enjoyed our stay at the riverside and had a good weekend break.

many levels
You must be willing to climb 2 flights of stairs and down one further to the breakfast room. If you arrive without a car be ready to climb up a hill to get into the town. Accept that and the stay is a pleasure.

Well earned rest
After a arduous journey walking Coast to Coat, a stop at Richmond was required,. The River View Bed & Breakfast provided a friendly and welcoming service and smart accommodation.
Although I may not be walking that route again, the next time I'm needing to stay in Richmond, River View will be on the top of my list.

The property is on 4 floors with only 2 bedrooms which are situated at the top of the house. I would say unsuitable for disabled or families, or tall people.
Nice friendly welcome. Parking could be a problem depending on size of vehicle.
Beautiful view from the terrace where I had breakfast.
Breakfast was excellent

Friendliest B&B
We had a wonderful stay at River View B&B, we were warmly welcomed by Jill with freshly baked scones and tea.The views are stunning from both rooms. Close to everything of importance, very good location. You can sleep without hearing any street noises. I can really recommend this B&B!
