Pleasant stay!
Lovely hotel prefect for exploring Battle right on the high street. Lots of stairs and as I say on the high street so if either of those things are an issue this one is not for you. We were very happy and the restaurant attached to the hotel 'Simply Italian' was excellent. Customer service very good, request for an extra pillow acted on straight away. Pleasant friendly staff. All round a perfectly decent place to stay.

Good room and good location
As participants in the reenactment of the Battle of Hastings we needed a good bed and a shower within walking distance of the battlefield. We found all that and more in The George. We had a large room with excellent clean beds and a spacious en suite bathroom, also very clean. The hotel is old and could possibly do with a bit of renovation, but the accommodation itself was very good. Friendly service too, we arrived late coming from the ferry, but I called the hotel en route and it wasn't a problem at all. Pubs, deli etcetera all within a few yards, and of course the abbey very close by. Did I mention the hotel parking at the rear? We will certainly book here again next time we come to fight the Normans!

It was ok, nothing to write home about. Basic.
Had an attic room which was quite small but clean. Window frames were rotted and some of the panes were cracked and stuck with tape! Generally a bit shabby, cables all over the place on the stairwell, reception walls and corridors have paint peeling off. Could do with some tlc. No facilities for food apart from it ajoins Si Italia restaurant down stairs (but no discount for guests). Basic facilities. Overpriced considering no breakfast facilities. Very central though (on high street) so a good location. Seems to be run by one person but he was friendly enough.

George Hotel Battle
Hotel was very quite and the reception was unmanned so you had to push a buzzer before anyone appeared, eventually someone turned up who was quite helpful. We had an attic room which was at the top of an interesting Hitchcock style staircase and one wonders how many people have fallen to their death here ? To be honest our room was quite cozy with a bath and a hand shower, TV and kettle and the bed was very comfortable, it was also reasonably clean. This was a one night stay and very good value for money....We would be happy to stay again.

Sigh.... does budget mean "cheap", in this case, yes.......
A small double room, with an en-suite bathroom and toilet.....
The bathroom light had a fly colony in it, but it was okay, they were clearly all dead......
The shaver light didn't work.
After closing the bathroom door and the later opened it, the plastic vent in the very small bathroom window launched itself across the bathroom, bouncing on the floor at my feet and leaving the razor edged hole in the window exposed....
If the water pressure had been any lower it may have been quicker to wash in the flushing toilet....
All this and being on the very top floor of this old building with my three bags I found it an interesting climb.... I managed to avoid the CCTV cabling sticking out from the edge of the upstairs doorframe and pulled it through its clips to get it out of the way....
A breakfast may have made up for some of this but wasn't included. I did know this at booking, but am now glad I didn't have one.
On reporting the issues with the room I was greeted with a grunt, whereupon I left.....
Never again.... I fear they focus all their effort on making money in the restaurant and very little on making it a decent place to stay...
Would I recommend this place to anyone?
Not to a someone I wanted to remain friends with.

Sadly an aged beauty
I was looking forward to my stay, after seeing pictures of what I thought would be a 'find'. Sadly, I was disappointed in almost every aspect. Firstly, I arrive to the car park, with it being full, the solution was to park out on the high street and move it by 8am, so I reversed out of a crammed, dark car park. (Not particularly pleasant) My room was an attic room with a spiral staircase to climb. I was greeted by a very uncomfortable picture of peeling paint, rotting window frames, DIY tile grouting etc. There wasn't a shower, shower attachment or even a cheap version. There was, however, a wonderful view of the castle (?) from the bathroom window (as the air vent had been taken off, and left sat on the windowlege) at the end of my short stay, I didn't even have the opportunity to mention the vent, as no one was around and it was a key drop situation. It's a shame as you can see that in it's prime, the building would have something special, and with an overhaul still could be. Big shame.
