One to Avoid
This is one to avoid, the place is falling apart and the standard of the room offered is poor, broken tiles and shower in our first room and not much better in the second room we were offered, had there been an alternative we would have gone elsewhere. The only plus side was all linen and towels were clean and fresh and the room though almost threadbare was also reasonably clean.

Bridge Inn short stay
We wanted a 2 night stay to attend a family meeting in Clevedon. The accomodation called 'The Bridge Inn New Lodge' is joined to the Bridge Inn a Hungry Horse Green King chain Pub. On arrival and walking into the reception area our first impression was a dirty drink stained carpet and strange smells. The reception desk was sticky and typical of what you find in gastro pubs with poor kitchen fryer extraction. Although the accomodation reception area is separated from the pub by double doors, it is clearly used as an overspill for drinkers who spill their drinks!
After receiving our room key on a sticky key fob, we hoped the room and common areas might be better. Unfortunately, the standard of cleanliness along corridors was very poor. Carpets are hoovered but there are strong smells and dirt/stickyness is everywhere along surfaces and architectual fittings. There are some automatic air fresheners fitted, but these only have a masking effect and the background odours mix to make matters worse.
Our room for two was room 35 which was a spacious family room. Again dust and dirt had been collecting in places, whilst the bathroom tile grout was stained and dirty. The window cill had collected mould and left black stains. The room had a different odour, that of stale smoke. Whilst there was a 'no smoking' sign on the door, the carpets and soft furnishing inside the room all gave off the same smell. Vacuum cleaning alone would do nothing to remove the odour.
Low energy lights were fitted, but there was a bulb missing in each of a pair of lights each side of the bed and the desk which may have been to save money. We were pleased that the room was quiet as we had asked for and the bed was very comfortable. Next morning we both had showers but found the wired-in hair dryer only ran for 20 seconds, then switched off. We both walked down to reception with wet hair and were given a key to room 6. That room had a hairdryer with the same fault!
On our first evening, we chose to eat a meal in the pub and were satisfied with our meal choice although there was very little fresh healthy fruit or vegetables. There were 2 good real beers on offer, but unfortunately at 18.30 they had run out of Abbot Ale! At around 18.30 when the pub was filling with customers including children, one of the customers decided to use a fire exit door to have a smoke. The fire door was firmly locked on the inside, as was a second fire door. We informed the bar staff Supervisor of their legal duty who then came and undid the strong catches.
We ate breakfast in the pub on 2 mornings. Each morning carpets in the breakfast dining area were covered in stale chips and crumbs, whilst strangely we watched a member of staff vacuuming carpets at the far end of the bar where breakfast was not being served! Since chips were not on the breakfast menu, we assumed that what we saw was left over from the night before.
After 2 nights and on the morning of departure we did inform the reception staff and were told they were aware of the issues which would be resolved by a 'make over' and improvements. However, we did say that all the young staff serving us had a good helpful and friendly attitude and they should not be held responsible for poor management and direction.
The Bridge offers conferencing facilities and plenty of accomodation for groups, but we would not recommend our friends to stay there, only to suffer their embarrassing complaints.

Poor no staff available when desperately needed
Fire alarm went off 3.30am, stood outside the hotel in my PJs in the poring rain and gales, no staff to advise. Alarm stopped after an hour. Could not settle, so had no choice to leave (as other guests did). Total waste, stopped there to recharge, but left knackered wet, cold and annoyed. If staff where on duty we would have been reassured.

the bed was rather clean but I was disgusted with the state of bathroom. the floor in the bathroom was so bad we couldn't close it!! when I tried to close the door I thought I was trapped in there because couldn't open the door and the actual bathroom was not clean. the room wasn't clean didn't have enough cups to have a drink and the only cup that was left was dirty!! so overall a disappointing experience

Excellent value if a bit dated
The room was spacious and newly decorated although things like the carpets and bath are rather tired and dated. But so what?!! The bed is clean and comfortable, there is everything you need for a short stay. The restaraunt provides standard pub grub. No pretensions but good value for money. If you have children with you the kidzone is a fantastic asset and the childrens menu is flexible and really good value.
