4Visit England Assessed Bed and Breakfast Ratings explained
Elmfield House Arrathorne, Bedale, DL8 1NE
Welcoming bed and breakfast in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales with evening meals available by prior arrangement. Delicious Yorkshire breakfasts, comfy beds, home cooked food and relaxed surroundings.

Escape. Relax. Enjoy

Located centrally between Leyburn, Richmond and Bedale, Elmfield House is a country guesthouse offering outstanding bed and breakfast in the Yorkshire Dales. As well as being ideally located for visits to the Yorkshire Dales, the North Yorkshire Moors, Harrogate and the East Coast are within easy travelling distance. Catterick Garrison is nearby as are Croft Circuit for petrolheads and Catterick Racecourse, along with other racecourses, for admirers of a different horse power, are in easy reach. Our location also makes us a peaceful stopping off point for those travelling the length of the A1.

Our home has lots of space, both inside and out, with the added privacy of a guest entrance and stairs giving access to 4 large en-suite bedrooms, including 2 with four poster beds and a family room for 2 adults and up to 2 children. Guests can also enjoy a huge conservatory, with airy east facing dining area and a guest lounge with current editions of leading magazines, books and games. Outside there are views over open countryside and woodland with a beautiful lake where coarse fishing is available. You are welcome to chat to Hetty and the girls, the hens who provide very free range eggs for breakfast and the other animals are always pleased to see visitors.

As well as offering a tranquil location, comfy beds and an excellent Yorkshire Breakfast, we serve home cooked evening meal and guests can enjoy a warm welcome with with a cup of tea accompanied by home-made cake to help the relaxation get under way.

Our location and facilities make us an ideal venue for a weekend break for up to 14 adults and group bookings are a speciality. Walkers and bikers are welcome and we will do our best to help you sort out any wet gear if that is needed.

It is very peaceful here, about 1/4 mile from the road and is a fantastic location for star gazing with big, clear open skies, so feel free to bring your fishing rod or telescope.

We love living here and delight in sharing it with guests so look forward to meeting you - you are most welcome.

Excellent 1 night stay
Stayed the night before participating in an endurance event. Arriving in the early evening I was welcomed by a glass of wine before the landlord gave me a lift (I traveled by public transport) to a nice local pub. I had a very relaxing and quiet night. The bed was excellent. The breakfast the next morning was cooked as I wanted it after which i had a nice chat with the owners before they called me a taxi to the event. Overall a short but very nice stay. Looking forward staying there again.

Excellent B&B in North Yorkshire
We had a very comfortable and enjoyable four night stay with Astra and Ian at Elmfield House. They were both very welcoming and excellent hosts. The king size double bedroom was of a very high standard with a newly refurbished bathroom. The property is ideally situated for visiting both the moors and the dales as well as being close to the A1 and we definitely plan to return to continue our exploration of the area.

First class accommodation
We thoroughly enjoyed our few days at Elmfield House. There was a very warm welcome with a pot of tea and cake when we arrived, and our host found time to sit and chat to us in the very pleasant lounge. We felt at home straight away. Our room was delightful and, most importantly, the bed was extremely comfortable. It was a pleasure to go down for breakfast. The food was great and the atmosphere was relaxed. It felt like staying with good friends.

A gem of a place.
Beautiful setting, and a warm welcome awaited me. Room was double booked but excellent communication, and an alternative room given at no extra cost. Owner arranged a meal at a local pub for me, and could not have been more helpful. Breakfast freshly cooked (none of this buffet stuff you get in large hotels). Will definitely stay again.
