Reviews - The Cricketers Arms

3AA Assessed Hotel Ratings explained
The Cricketers Arms, Rickling Green, Saffron Walden, Stansted, CB11 3YG
The Cricketers Arms in Rickling Green is a beautiful country pub with rooms on the doorstep of the rolling Essex countryside. It’s halfway between Bishops Stortford & Saffron Walden, & only 12 minutes from Stansted Airport. Set in a wonderful warm red brick building overlooking the expanse of the green & the historic cricket ground, the pub’s the perfect place for a stop-off en route to or from the airport, a short break in the countryside or if you’re in the area visiting friends or attending a wedding. Step foot through the door and you’ll find a cosy low-ceilinged oak beamed bar with a roaring log fire & lots of comfy spots to enjoy a beer or glass of wine, a stylish restaurant serving great quality freshly cooked food, and pretty views over the green. Hot food is served all day & on the menu is a wide choice of freshly cooked seasonal food - much of it sourced locally - & a particularly good English breakfast to set you up for the day. There are real ales & a thoughtfully chosen wine list with plenty of wines & Champagnes to enjoy by the bottle or glass. The service is warm & friendly. Upstairs, there are ten individually designed bedrooms all with en suite facilities. Some are modern with contemporary furnishings & others more traditional with antique pieces. All have comfortable king or super king size beds, with good linen & luxurious throws, as well as powerful showers, fluffy white towels, complementary toiletries, hairdryer & tea and coffee making facilities. There is digital flat screen television, free Wi-Fi in every room & free internet access throughout the pub. Free parking is available at the pub for all guests staying a minimum of one night & transfers to the airport can be arranged. The Cricketers Arms is just a three minute drive from the M11, with plenty of attractions nearby including the historic town of Saffron Walden with its many shops and boutiques, Audley End House & Mole Hall Wildlife Park.

New part old part
Our room was in the old part of the hotel problem is the ceilings are very low and my husband banged his head on several occasions TV poor reception
On leaving I saw the rooms in the new part of the hotel and would ask for nice high ceilings on another visit Also I think the bathrooms looked fresher in the new part

Cricketer's Arms, Saffron Waldon
The setting of the property is excellent and the accommodation was of a high quality, although there was a problem with the bathroom door catch.

Handy for Stansted Aorport
Stayed for a night before a morning flight from Stansted. Staff organised a taxi which was prompt and a reasonable price. Room was excellent, with comfortable bed. On the food side, breakfast was spot on, and plenty to choose from. I thought the evening menu was overpriced, and several of the specials were not available, which was a shame as they looked good. Roast pork dinner was very orange; carrot and swede mash, pumpkin (I think) chunks, but strangely no green vegetables at all. Presentation was poor, with veg piled on top of the potatoes, then meat on top of that, and a massive Yorkshire pudding next. No apple sauce! I would stay again, but would eat elsewhere.

A little gem !
Was on business in Cambridge but well worth staying a little bit out of the city. Great staff and dinner and breakfast were first class, room rate is a bargain too. Much better than the usual corporate hotels at £150+ per night.
