This hotel was the worst I have been to in a long time and was expensive (100$ a night).
You better go to a backpacker place, the Y or a dormitory than sleep in that decrepit hotel. I had to go outside in an alley full of cigarette butts before arriving in my room. I had to put a blanket in the window to ensure my privacy since the blinds were broken. The room was musty with the walls full of mildew. The bunk bed was a cheap fabrication I would have been afraid to go on the top bed. The mattress was so thin that I could feel the planks under it. The hotel must have had a deal on double bed sheets because that is what was on the single bed. The handle of the cold water faucet stayed in my hand during my first shower. The toilet and all faucets were leaking. At night it made a terrible noise. The shower curtain was moldy. The personnel were never available and did not care at all about the state of the place. When I ask about it I was told I was demanding and that you ‘get what you pay for’. The manager left a candle burning near the entrance without supervision most of the time; a real fire hazard for that old building. The photographs provided in all the different internet hotel reservation sites for this hotel must have been taken years ago since the rooms that I have visited do not resemble the photographs provided by the owner at all. I asked to put some of my things in a safe and basically was told that it was not necessary. Anyway it was better not to put anything in a safe in that hotel since the personnel were never available. The telephone accessible in the hotel was out of service. I was able to negotiate my way out at a lost. The manager decided to double the price of the room for the first night I was there. In the pamphlet of the hotel it is said that it is a 3 star hotel. Are they kidding.
Very friendly staff, helpful, efficient and lively.
Good situation for walking access to city centre and harbours. Kins's Cross very colourful, characterful....not to be missed.
