Reviews - Elen's Castle Hotel

3Visit Wales Assessed Inn Ratings explained
Elen's Castle Hotel and Restaurant , Dolwyddelan, LL25 0EJ
This rustic 18th century coaching inn still retains a wealth of charm and character with many original features. Elen’s Castle sits in the heart of Dolwyddelan village which is a natural and historical crossroads at the foot of the 872 metre high Moel Siabod and straddles the trout and salmon-rich River Lledr which wends its way through the village, meadows and turbulent gorges on its tireless journey to the sea. The village of Dolywyddelan is home of Llewelyn the Great's Castle that provides stunning views of Mount Siabod, the Crimea Pass and on clear days you can see across to the Denbigh moors.

All of the bedrooms here at Elen’s Castle Hotel are charming and include fabulous romantic four-poster rooms that overlook the river and Lledr Valley. All have en-suite showers and several have tubs as well, and all of the bedrooms are equipped with Free-View television and DVD players, well stocked hospitality tray, hairdryer, radio alarm clock. Free Wi-Fi broadband Internet access is available in the bar and lounge and most of the bedrooms. The main restaurant and the Garden Room enjoy beautiful views over the Lledr Valley where the tables are graced with a selection of mouth-watering local produce including famous Welsh Black beef (the shaggy-looking black cattle native to North Wales) cooked with passion and served with style. Helen and Adam, the very friendly hard-working couple who own and run this super little hotel, pride themselves on providing a warm and friendly base where you can enjoy the awe-inspiring magic of Snowdonia National Park. Fabulous stay.

Babies under the age of 2 in cots can stay free of charge if own cot is brought. If a cot is required a surcharge of £6.00 for the duration of the stay will be applied. Bedding is charged at £3.50 per set. Confirmation is required prior to arrival so room arrangements can be made.

Hotel tired and scruffy
Hotel tired and scruffy, en suites are glorified cupboards off the bedrooms with sliding doors that did not fit and not private. landlord very friendly but landlady was very abrupt and verging on rude, beds not very comfortable, adjacent road very noisy. Hotel very tired and requires a good lick of paint all round. Food very good.

ManagementResponse

Dear Guest, Thank you for your comments, we are pleased that you enjoyed your food whilst you stayed at Elen's Castle Hotel. We are sorry that you did not find the ensuite large enough. The sliding door does not suit everyone but the shower and toilet themselves are very recent and modern. This room does have a four-poster bed and a triple aspect with truly stunning views over the Lledr river and valley and so we do feel that our Visit Wales grading is accurate as a three star inn. We also believe that our prices do offer value for money, so with the reduced rate taken by this customer we are naturally disappointed with these comments. As part of our annual winter maintenance and continual improvement plan, certain parts of the hotel will be refurbished this winter. Finally, we take pride in our customer service and strive to be as helpful and friendly as possible at all times and hopefully the other customer comments show this to be the case. If there was any blip in our usual high standard of customer service, we sincerely apologise. Regards, Helen & Adam

Rural Accommodation
They welcome was very pleasant and informative. I felt the room was quite small although well presented and clean. The bar was welcoming and friendly. We did not have to wait too long for breakfast which was varied and well cooked although a menu would have helped when asked what we wanted. What was on offer? The dirty crockery was not cleared although the staff brought several items to the table.Overall the decoration was a little tired.

elens castle hotel homely and a stunning village.
Had a lovely relaxing weekend here, we turned up two hours late and 25 minutes after the kitchen had closed, but helen made sure we got a meal even though it was late, which was a very nice homemade meal, just what we needed after a 4 hour drive to get there. The room was average yet was clean and fresh, with everything we needed. Nice modern furniture.
Some reviews I read said it was noisy but in our room it was so quiet and peaceful, we heard nothing at all. The twin beds had been pushed togther for our arrival and i have to say made a good king size bed and was comfortable, the bedding smelled very nice.
The shower was good and kept constant at the temperature needed. Cannot ask for more in this department.
The stay was a good one, athough for £70 (discounted too) per night i have stayed in a bigger and better place in snowdonia for only £49 per night, I would have just expected a little more for the price of the room, but it was comfy and clean, and in contrast the food was better at elens castle and the hotel was quieter.
Plus a late night stroll around this pretty little village and a drink outside the local pub was perfect and I will stay in the village again. I would also stay at elens castle again if i could get a cheaper deal but would not pay £70 again. You can get a lot more for that kind of money.
So my overall review is elens castle is welcoming, clean, fresh, good food, decent room but just a tad over priced.....but you never know until you try and I enjoyed my weekend and i would recommend it to anyone who can get a better deal.

that bathroom was fantastic!
My other half couldn't have been more pleased with the size and shape of the bath. The rooms were silent and the bed was great.
