Reviews - Innkeeper's Lodge Solihull, Knowle

3AA Assessed Hotel Ratings explained
The Kings Arms, Warwick Road Knowle, Solihull, B93 0EE
"Set in the charming village of Knowle, this historic lodge provides convenient yet characterful budget accommodation near Solihull, Dorridge, Birmingham and the NEC.

Dating back to 1816, The King's Arms is furnished with 10 comfy rooms and a cosy pub serving up seasonally inspired food and drink together with bags of rustic charm. Its canal and countryside setting brings further appeal, especially during the summer when the outdoor dining area springs to life.

Knowle is a lovely place to unwind, with a pretty village square, an early 15th century church and lots of idyllic, timber-framed cottages. You could also take a stroll down the Grand Union Canal – but be sure to pack some sandwiches, as there are 147 miles of towpath.

The wider area offers attractions to suit every taste. Shopaholics will love Solihull’s Touchwood Centre, history buffs will enjoy the moated, medieval charms of Baddesley Clinton and families will relish a trip to Warwick and Kenilworth Castles.

Systems need overhaul.
I book accommodation for a build-team of either 4 or 6 attending shows at NEC (Birmingham) and Olympia (London). We have used the Heron's Nest (now the King's Arms) on many occasions as the team like staying there. After a long day, we just want to check-in, have a shower and retire to the restaurant for some R&R. Booking on the Innkeeper's site is dire, as it will only let me book up to 3 rooms. It's much easier to use Late Rooms or Booking.com (!)

This was a lovely hotel, well situated with canal outside its door. Would have enjoyed staying longer and would book again.

Be aware that it's basic !
The staff were lovely and friendly. I have eaten in the restaurant before and it was excellent. I went into my single room and could only laugh about it. Tiny, dated, tired and awful. A lot of noise from everyone elses rooms too and doors banging. If you stay here, prepare for that. A tiny shower and a clingy shower curtain......yuck

Arrived a 10.15 in the evening to find the room was not ready, just what you need at that time of the night after a 21/2 hour journey.
When I asked for my invoice I found it was not for VAT , I then had to wait for a hand written one.

Disappointing
I stayed here for 2 nights on business. The 1st night we went out for dinner and came back at around 10:45am wanting to have 1 last drink before we went to bed. The 3 people behind the bar said they had cashed up and weren't going to serve us, then they said they would check with the Manager. The Manager said we could have a drink as long as we paid cash. We were residents there this wasn't good enough as far as I was concerned. The 2nd night we ate in and I had Gammon it was very dry and very poor. My Colleagues weren't too impressed either with what they were served up with.
