Saturday night stay.

A well presented room, stylish furniture and fittings.

Room was cold in the morning and we reported that the radiator didn't work. Nice bathroom and a good breakfast.

Disappointing after reading the description of high quality accomodation.

The reality did not match the advertised high quality accomodation.

The "chalets" in the car park at the side of the pub were somewhat austere and plain and the bed was far less comfortable than most "pub beds" that I have tried in recent times. The refurbished bathroom would benefit from some further work and provision of the usual shower cap and toiletries would be recommended. Although the young couple behind the bar on our arrival were willing they would benefit from a little more training in giving attention to the paying guests when they arrive in the bar clutching cases. We felt as though we were interrupting a group of regualr drinkers at the bar engaged in conversation with the staff and it was a little uncomfortable as we waited to be seen. The dining room was felt to be rather bland and cold with its plain walls and wooden flooring - just not a comfortable and welcoming room. The dinner however was good as was the excellent full english breakfast and superb coffe - so no complaints there . We had picked the Black Bull and it was a mistake - the beer and atmosphere proved much better in other hotel. We felt that it was too expensive at £140 per night compared with many others we have stayed in around the Cambridge area and actually went to a favourite pub in Saffron Walden for dinner on our second night rather than face the dining room again.
