Villa Esplanade Apartments & Hotel Rooms
Just as I remember it from last time I stayed.
Worse budget hotel ever...
I stay in a lot of budget hotels throughout the UK and this has to be the worst.
There is no customer service at the hotel. The restaurant where the keys are left has nothing to do with the rooms. My keys were not there which was a big issue. The restaurant eventually contacted someone who gave me a room but had no idea I was arriving. As a result I was told I would have to move rooms after 1 night (I was staying for two nights). I also had to proof of payment as the man wanted to charge me again. The rooms were stained and I would have had a bath but it was full of grime. On the second night I wanted to speak to the owner but although the restaurant eventually gave me his mobile he failed to reply.
Villa Esplanade Apartments & Hotel Rooms
After being put under some pressure to leave a review we thought we would leave an honest account :) Positives - Good location near to the beach and main shops/bars/cafes etc - Spacious apartments for a group of friends -Clean and tidy apartment upon arrival -Facilities in apartment generally of an ok standard Negatives - £10 for parking - not sure what the owner is actually spending all of this cash on, luckily there was a space left - 10am check out - not sure why when you can't even check in until late afternoon..don't even get a full 24 hours there.
Better at the Travel Lodge down the road to get a lie in til 12, or pay a bit more at TL and leave at 3. -So hot in the rooms. As young females we felt uncomfortable leaving the balcony doors open whilst asleep at night as we were right next to the fire escape, windows barely opened, was so hot and stuffy in the evening - have some fans as an option or something.
- Not sure why you can't shove cheap soap in the bathroom for washing hands, luckily had read the notice about towels so had to pack those in our cases
-Entire look of the place felt like it was from the 1970s. The owner is blatantly aware of this...yet the lack of bothering to do anything about it is exasperating. Ideal location, big space, yet can't be bothered to improve it. Hence why there will always always be negative reviews about the look/feel/décor of the building/corridors/rooms being threadbare and run down. We were informed the hotel was full most of the year - couple that with the extra few hundred quid a week from the carpark, I don't actually know what the money is going on to improve it???. No point in the manager complaining he gets negative reviews on here when he can't be a*sed to roll his sleeves up and do something about it. How about take some constructive criticism, get some fresh new carpets, get a few pots of magnolia paint from B&Q and spruce it up. The attitude may also improve when guests are positive which is also a bonus. I doubt anyone is a repeat guest here and so there is only so long you can rely on 'one off' visitors
-Don't advertise free wifi when you can't receive it in every room. Annoys guests. We'd come again - but only when it's been given a face lift and would only tell others to go when this had happened.
Enjoyed our weekend to Scarborough but would look at other options in the area to stay until this place picks its game up.
Our second visit to the villa Upgraded to flat 1 from a double ensuite room.
Fab flat, sea view, comfy bed and a decent nights sleep. What more do you need honestly. Reading other reviews moaning about car park charges, electricity, towels etc. If you read the descriptions it does explain it all quite clearly. If your wanting 5 stars then clearly your looking in the wrong place. It's clean and quirky, maybe not everybody's taste. But Ill be back for stay number 3 soon.
Not what we expected:
The internet booking system was for a cheap double and an expensive single for our daughter.
On arrival they didn't seem to know anything about it. But for the agreed price paid, they found a very nice large well equipped apartment with beautiful sea view which accommodated all of us.
Great overnight stay in Scarborough
Travelled down from Newcastle on Sunday and checked in about noon with a warm welcome by the manager.
Cannot fault him or the our stay. We left as very happy customers.
Weekend in Scarborough
Everything was good, room clean plenty of space, and no pressure to be out of the way, enjoyed the craic with the staff, good laugh.
My partner had read reviews and did not want me to book it but she has now put 1stone, on with all the humble pie she has ate.
Last minute get away
Stayed here as a last minute get away, will stay again.
As a single lady traveller they made me feel welcome :-)
Thank you boys for another stay
Only worth it if you get it cheap
Although travelling alone I booked a double room as I didn't want a single bed.
Manager assumed I was a couple and put me in a self catering apartment that was actually larger than my flat at home. For what I paid it was fantastic value but not worth the full price he quoted me. Great views and adequate facilities though needs updating. The board says they are open all year round but there was no central heating and fan heater provided was not enough for winter. There is a maze of stairs and corridors to negotiate that are tatty, smelly and full of junk. Two men taking turns on reception, one very nice and very talkative, one rather grumpy. The nice one told ne that his family had run the place for 43 years, which explains a lot.
