Massively Overpriced Dull Hotel
Arrived at the hotel and was told I had to pay for the room immediately - even though I hadn't seen it.
I had booked a Superior Double but was shown to a Family Room which stank of drains, I asked someone to come and smell it and was told " I have hay fever and can't smell anything " and then he just walked away . The room itself was OK but the smoke alarm light was so bright it was almost impossible to sleep as there is a light on all night. The restaurant is very dark and dismal although the food was OK. The biggest problem is that there is absolutely NO SIGNAL AT ALL. When I enquired I was told that no-one gets any signal at all apart from in the car park. Would not be recommending this hotel to anyone. Especially for the price.
Good for a stop over
We stayed in the Pump room, which was not attached to the main building and situated in the car park.
The room had easy access from the car. The carpet was quite dirty due to the direct access from the car park. The room was dark, having only two very small windows. The bed was extremely comfortable and clean. It had a good selection of many types of tea, along coffee and hot chocolate and biscuits. The bathroom was very roomy. The breakfast waitress was very friendly and polite, we even had gluten free toast. The decor is not to my liking, but ideal for a stopover.
This hotel is amazing excellent service thoughout my stay.
Positives: friendly staff & good food.
The main building itself was beautifully characteristic and very charming. Negatives: the cottage accommodation (situated separately from the main building and in the car park) was extremely disappointing. The room did not reflect the pictures advertised - was very small and a little bit 'grubby' inside.
The bed and bedlinen were very uncomfortable; this coupled with the noise of deliveries and refuse HGVs outside the window contributed to a disturbed nights' sleep. The shower was lukewarm at most, and the absence of traditional tea bags with the tea & coffee making facilities left us feeling cold towards the cottage. Overall disappointing, but we loved the grasshopper inn so much that we would happily return but only to stay in the main building next time.
A little gem
My husband and I had the small annex, in the car park!.
We were a bit dubious but it was actually quite cosy inside. Not a particularly good nights sleep as we are used to a king size double bed and a much firmer mattress.
All the staff were really friendly, the breakfast was excellent. For the money we paid we were very happy & would definitely return.
Lovely Pleasant Stay
Under new ownership, some nice changes to the menu with lovely food.
Breakfast was good choice, but my poached eggs were cold, would be nice if asked was everything ok for you. Room comfortable although shower tepid.
the grasshopper inn is a lovely hotel, although on a busy road, once in the hotel was peaceful and very atmospheric.
the rooms were large and clean apart from the odd cobweb. had a very enjoyable stay
