Nice Stay but bad smell of smoke in room
Me and my partner had a pleasant stay here, but we were a little disappointed with the distinct smell of smoke in the room.
What you can expect
Good clean room kept really nice.
Breakfast also, quality served with a professional touch. there is no option for packed lunches or evening meal. There is a lot of planned improvements I am told, but this means that there is no lounge or communal area. Internet access is provided. Good parking area. But the close proximity to the main road means that there are times when it is noisy for rooms on the front of the house.
A superb hotel making the most of a beautiful building.
My room was contempory and well furnished as well as spotless. The rest of the hotel was pretty tidy too, which is not a bad effort at all for a large building with high ceilings. The breakfast was top notch, the staff friendly and Id happily stay here again.
A lLovely Friendly B&B
We had a lovely long weekend stay at this very friendly B&B.
We stayed here whilst visiting out daughter who had recently moved to St Albans. Our room was clean & comfortable but did get rather warm during the night. But not to uncomfortable as there was a large window we could open. The breakfast was superb. Could not fault it. We did have transport but we walked into St Albans and out again every day. It took exactly 20 minutes at a leisurely pace. We could have got a bus in if we wanted to as there was a bus stop right outside the B&B. Thank you to the manager and staff for a lovely stay and we will definitely book again when we visit out daughter again.
I was on foot and found the walk out of St Albans rather longer than I expected from the map.
I also hadn't appreciated that the house was near a junction of two very busy roads. The bedroom was fine although there is unfinished decoration; the shower though was not very easy to regulate and had a needle spray. All in all I thought it was slightly expensive in contrast with other recent Laterooms stays
A really nice, friendly place serving a lovely breakfast.
Will stay here again. Thanks Avalon House.
Relaxed B&B with friendly service.
Had single room, for one night, which was as described. Slight smell of smoke or similar in room but only really noticeable when first walking in when room had been closed up.
The accommodation was adequate.
We were there for a funeral, and didn't want to spend too much. The lighting outside the room was insufficient to find the keyhole unless one of us went to the stairs when a light came on. There was evidence of disrepair (bathroom door handle, wardrobe door handle), the bathroom had no heating and had visible signs of damp, and when spending any length of time in the room, the single radiator was inadequate for the size of room. (The temperature outside was very low though.) Some TV channels weren't working properly during part of our stay, which was probably something to do with the signal, but although we mentioned it twice (once in the morning, once in the evening), no-one said that it had been investigated. However, the beds were clean and comfortable, and the food was OK (would have preferred better quality sausages though). The question below asks what this accommodation is suitable for, but doesn't have the answer I would give, which would be a commercial B&B for working people.
Nice hotel and staff.
Good sized room and good value for money. English breakfast was good and loads on the plate. Room was a bit dirty. Decor was poor. Very badly painted woodwork throughout. Worst I've ever seen anywhere. A professional paint job would greatly improve this hotel. Will definitely stay again.
We were impressed by the proprietress contacting us for time of arrival, was polite and informative on arrival.
Our double bedroom was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was second to none. We will book here again when we are seeking overnight accommodation in St. Albans.
