Windsor weekend away
We found Sir Christopher Wren via Laterooms.com for a weekend away and was pleasantly surprised. First visit to Windsor with hotel very central to all amenities shops, theater, river, rail station, M4 and of course Castle. Upon arrival we were greeted by friendly and welcoming staff who ensured check in was easy. We booked a double room and were taken to private apartment which was clean and well equiped for family self catering if required. While we did not eat an evening meal at Sir Christopher, the menu was extensive and reasonably priced; breakfast was extensive with superb views of the river Thames. An excellent hotel, central and very welcoming - we will visit again later this year.

Cold Breakfast and 'no chance' of extra scones
The cleanliness and quality of the room were both great. Bed was extremely comfortable.
Breakfast was a little disappointing on both mornings. The first morning was a self service buffet with cracked plastic lids covering the food and the sausages were not adequately cooked. The second day because of this we decided to order from the menu. I ordered eggs benedict and my partner ordered an omelette. My partner was very satisfied with his omelette, however the sauce for my eggs was stone cold. I asked for it to be reheated and was brought a fresh plate with a tepid sauce, not much warmer than the first time around. Very disappointing.
On the Saturday we went into the Thames view bar for drinks and cream teas and had invited some friends. On asking if we could have a few more scones as they were very small, we were told that there was 'no chance' and that if we wanted more scones we would have to purchase another cream tea, at a cost of £8.75. If my friend had not asked for a comments card, the manager would not have got involved. She apologised and we were then brought the extra scones at no further cost. This did put a damper on the whole event though.
The decor at the hotel and everything else was faultless, apart from being charged for an extra night's parking, which was £15 more than we should have paid. Luckily we noticed this error and the mistake was rectified.

Dear Sally, Thank you for taking the time to complete a review after your stay at the Sir Christopher Wren Hotel & Spa last month, and thank you also for your ratings and comments. Please allow me to express my deepest regret that your visit was quite mixed with regards to the Breakfast and Afternoon Tea. We truly value all feedback, and I can assure you that guest comments - both positive and negative - are always distributed to relevant staff members, and used to improve our service. Please rest assured that your comments have been passed on to our Head Chef Aime and Deputy General Manager Daniel who is in charge of the restaurant and will be investigated accordingly. Daniel and Aime are currently looking into how our Breakfast service can be improved and your comments will be considered when alterations are being made. Daniel will remind the servers that guest requests where possible should be met and if this cannot happen for any reason this should be explained in a clear informative manner and I am sorry that on this occasion this does not appear to have happened. Thank you so much for your positive comments about the room and I will pass these over to our Housekeeping Manager Monika who will be delighted that her teams hard work was received so well. I apologise for the mix up with the bill and am glad to see this was rectified for you. I do hope that these negative points did not impede your overall experience and I hope we can welcome you back to our hotel when you're next in the area. Kind regards, Kirsty

Lovely hotel
Location of this hotel is excellent as it is right on the river, near the shops and restaurants. There is parking nearby so no need to book hotels own. Breakfast not up to scratch so would go elsewhere if we came back plenty of choice very nearby.

Location, location, location!
The hotel is perfectly sited by the river in Windsor. We arrived by train at the riverside station so it was 50 level yards to the hotel. We walked into Windsor in 5 minutes and visited the Theatre Royal on our second night, also very close by. The receptionist gave us a choice of 3 rooms, we chose no. 86 over the courtyard entrace to the spa. It is half timbered with a very undulating floor, the only eccentricity we didn't really like was the air conditioning blowing warm air into the bedroom but not the ensuite bathroom. This meant the bathroom was always colder than the bedroom, strange.
The staff were excellent and very helpful. Unfortunately we didn't book the spa ahead of time and it was booked up all weekend. There is a jacuzzi but it's outside so not that inviting in mid-winter..

We found the hotel very comfortable and convenient for the sights of Windsor. It is near the railway station too. The staff went out of their way to be helpful. The food was excellent.

Room 84, we felt as thought we were not the hotel as we were in another building, so we needed coats to go outside for breakfast. House keeping was excellent, I asked for a mattress topper as the buttons were digging into my thigh, and she put a duvet and mattress cover on

ManagementResponse

Dear Guest, Thank you very much for taking the time to review your stay with us at the Sir Christopher Wren Hotel and for the excellent ratings on our service. I was sorry to read that you were unhappy with the location of room 84, as we do try and advertise the fact that the hotel is spread over five buildings on all websites as clearly as possible, to avoid any disappointment for our guests. I do hope this didn't take away from the overall enjoyment of your stay and you will return to us in the future. Warm regards, Jutta Staude, General Manager
