Reviews - The Claremont Hotel

Not Classified  Hotel Ratings explained
THE COOMBES , POLPERRO, PL132RG
The Claremont Hotel is a privately owned and family run hotel centrally positioned in the heart of Polperro, offering comfortable accommodation, and less than three minutes walk from what is probably the prettiest fishing harbour in south east Cornwall, if not in the whole county. Relaxing, picturesque, timeless Polperro is renowned as an ideal place to stay to discover and explore Cornwall, with superb walks and many places of interests and gardens nearby. Only 13 miles from the Eden Project.

The Claremont Hotel has twelve bedrooms, arranged on three floors. Those rooms at the front overlook the village and the rooms at the rear of the hotel are more secluded, facing the hillside. All rooms have a colour TV, tea/coffee making facilities and en suite bath or shower.

PLESE NOTE that the Hotel does NOT have views over the harbour.

Free secure car parking is available in the hotel car park situated immediately opposite the hotel.

BREAKFAST:
Breakfast is served between 8.20am and 9.00am each day. This may be extended to 9.30am when the hotel is exceptionally busy but only when a notice is posted to this effect. If the time should vary on one particular day such as New Years Day then a special notice will be displayed on the day previous to the later breakfast. NO NOTICE - NO CHANGE. Breakfasts are freshly cooked and this is why we have a short time window to ensure that your breakfast is at its best quality when it is served to you. Hotels that have a longer time window still have to prepare the breakfast in case guests arrive early but if the guests arrive later then the breakfasts are kept warm until they arrive and in our opinion the breakfast is then not in its best condition. We are of the firm belief that our method provides the best product and eliminates the growth of harmful bacteria which could lead to food poisoning. To avoid waste we request that you choose your breakfast on arrival but this can be changed each day by advising staff before 6pm.

If you do not require breakfast then it would be very much appreciated if you advise a staff member accordingly. This means that the breakfast staff can finish and carry on with their other duties rather than wait until 9.00am expecting guests that fail to show.

CAR PARK INSTRUCTION!

Access to our car park is through a controlled barrier which automatically opens when you pull up and stop just one or two feet in front of the barrier. It closes behind you after entry. We have sufficient spaces for each hotel room and although each space is designated with a letter you can park in any convenient space. Larger cars should be parked on the riverside and small cars on the roadside of the car park. Please drive into your chosen parking space (PLEASE DO NOT REVERSE). The reason for this is that if you reverse the car into a space it is difficult to remove your luggage and cars can be scratched by suitcases (as has happened) as guests walk between their car and another car for access to and from their boot. Also on the riverside it could be dangerous as a heavy suitcase may cause you to lose your balance and fall into the river. By driving into your parking space it means that you will have your boot in the centre of the car park. If your car has a rear engine please reverse in.

When you wish to take your car out of the car park you will be given a code to enter into the keypad, which in turn opens the barrier. You should not enter the code until your car is at the barrier because the barrier is programmed to close if there are no cars passing through. However when your car is under the barrier it will not close because of safety devices so you can take your time in getting out onto the road.

We hope to have the pleasure of your company, when we will endeavour to make your stay as memorable as possible.
Open all year!!

I am sorry but we Don't accept pets in any of the rooms.

One night break
Hotel was well situated with a short walk to the harbour, the car park was just opposite and we were warmly welcomed by the receptionist, who seemed to be the only member of staff in the hotel as she also served, and we believe cooked, breakfast the next day. Room was clean but very jaded with dark oak furniture. Would stay again if price was lowered to reflect lack of upkeep.

ManagementResponse

Thank you for your review, the positive and the negatives. We are sorry that the room decor was not to your liking, the wood was Teak, not dark Oak and in the main real wood. If you prefer the furniture style of modern budget hotels which consists of chipboard (now often referred to as Particleboard) and MDF covered with laminate to resemble the real thing then these hotels are available but usually outside of major towns. You then are obliged to use the hotel facilities for food and beverage unless you are prepared to drive. However you will find that these budget hotels are usually more expensive than our hotel and with respect you have mistaken quality wood for poor upkeep. Furthermore we are convinced that such modern furniture would not be in keeping with a old building, (with up todate plumbing and central heading), or the historic village of Polperro. We note that you think that the hotel is run by one person but I can assure you it is not although in the main I am in the front of house. Irrespective of how many people operate the hotel providing the service and the standard of breakfast is good then I fail to understand why you mentioned this as if it was a complaint. If you like to see lots of staff and consider this important then there are places that operate this way but not at the price you paid for your room with us. We of course would welcome you back but at the same or perhaps a higher price depending on the season and on reflection you may agree that the price you paid was indeed excellent value for money. Kind regards, Carina Marta, Partner

Great hotel in a great little town!
My fiance & I had a really nice stay at the Claremont. The lady running it was very helpful and friendly, the rooms were clean and big (but just a little dated), and we absolutely loved the town.

Easter in Polperro
Enjoyable stay but as the weather was very cold at night the radiator didn't seem to come on till 8 in the morning so did found we was cold in the room and think it would be better if the breakfast could be a bit later than 9.00am especially if you've been out the night before but didn't let it spoil our stay. Rooms were very clean and staff very helpful .

Fantastic and quaint
This hotel is very dated but at the same time it is clean, well run, friendly, comfortable and exactly what we were looking for. The bedding smelt so clean and fresh I couldn't wait to go to bed the bed itself was so comfy I slept like a log, the whole place looked dated but it was part of the charm and character of the place. The owner was so helpful and smiley, made such an effort with all guests. We will be back!

Perfect Hideaway
Lovely hotel in the middle of the village Bonus was the car park opposite. We had a large double room which was very spacious, tea/coffee making facilities, tv, en-suite. Very clean and comfortable. Manageress was lovely, very friendly and helpful and cooked a great breakfast in the morning. Fruit juice, cereal, toast etc. also available. Stayed for a weekend at the end of November so hotel was very quiet which suited us perfectly. We had own front door key. Great pub (The Ship) just down the road. Good base to explore the lovely countryside and Looe which is a short drive away. Would definitely stay here again and hope to be back in the summer.

"My Pleasure"
Welcomed us with a broad smile our hostess covered the house rules and led us to our double en-suite on the 2nd floor. Keen to help at all times, she accompanied me to the Hotel's private car park opposite and insisted in carrying the largest suitcase! Before I reached the bottom step the case had been delivered to our room and she had got down again to wish me a pleasant stay. For her nothing was too much trouble. For "front of house" she is the perfect hostess. She served breakfasts prepared by her partner between 8.15 and 9.00am - Juices/ cerials / and Full English (or less, if notified the previous night). These set us up for the day to explore just some of the delights of Cornwall this time but with a desire to return. Chris and Diane Branch.
