4AA Assessed Guest Accommodation Ratings explained
143 WELLSWAY , BATH, BA2 4RZ
This lovingly restored Victorian terrace, formerly a Victorian grocery and provisions store, offers comfortable and co ordinated rooms with all modern facilities. Louise and Chris with many years of hospitality experience between them have brought all their knowledge together to build upon the success of Devonshire House.

Recently awarded 4 stars by the AA, our bedrooms are furnished individually with coordinated fabrics and thoughtful extras to make your stay even more comfortable. Each room is en suite with tea & coffee making facilities, colour tv with free view, some with DVD/cd player and to enable you to start your stay the local way, a glass of 'Harvey's Bristol Cream' is offered on arrival.

We are lucky to have plenty of free parking, free and unrestricted on street. An easy 20 minute downhill walk into the city of Bath and all its historic delights, why not combine a bit of history with a soak in the relaxing waters of the Thermae Bath Spa - ask us about our spa package. We are also a great base from which to visit Longleat House and Safari, Wells, Glastonbury, Lacock, Castle Combe, Wales and the Cotswolds.

We guarantee to be available between 5 and 7 pm to check you in, if you require an alternative check in time you must let us know 24 hours in advance, as we may not be available to check you in, we can then notify you of our alternative check in procedure.

Prefect
Everything was perfect . The weather was reaching 25c so we made the most of the fan that was in our room we also had a fab view as we were at the front of the building . Bathroom was huge and well equipped with everything we need . We even had a bath was great for us as we don't have that luxury at home. Louise and chris went out of there way to help us and we arrived at 2pm ( you usually can not check in till 5) but they were more than happy to check us in early .the pub next door made us feel very welcome to the area and the locals are very happy to talk to you . Only thing I would say its not the ideal accommodation if you don't like walking as the hill down to bath city centre is steep but its nice to walk into town but we got a taxi back up it only cost £6 and it was worth it especially in the heat.

Short stay in Bath
On arrival our host was polite and welcoming ,giving us lots of info about he area and the best attractions.
Our room was spacious and well able to accommodate a couple. Breakfast was continental with some of best cheese we have ever tasted.

Not for me
Far from being " a co-ordinated room", our room (3) was furnished with a miscellany of furniture which looked as though it had come from a down-market car boot sale. The room was utterly charmless with no original features whatever, not even a cornice. The bed was only 6' long so quite unsuitable for tall people. The curtains had no blackout so inevitably one was woken at dawn. Showering was a a trial as the shower was mounted at one sloping end of a double bath, so impossible to get under it. The "restaurant" is actually a breakfast room furnished with tables and chairs which would be more appropriate in a workmen's cafe. How the AA managed to rate this place with 4 stars beats me.

Thanks for your feedback, which we always consider, it was a shame Devonshire House was not to your liking, perhaps a larger more standardised hotel would suit your next stay. Room 3, is our next room due for refurbishment, so will be changing very shortly but if you look at all our other reviews on sites such as Booking.com and Tripadvisor you will find that all our other guests do not share your views on the room. The point about the shower is very useful and we will look at moving that further 'into' the bath. Our Breakfast room, is a Breakfast room, we are a Bed and Breakfast and do not consider it to be a restaurant as we do not serve other meals in that room. Some of the chairs are currently being reupholstered, so unfortunately your visit coincided with the use of some 'temporary' furniture, so sorry this was not explained to you at the time. We do place feedback forms in all our bedrooms so that guests can tell us how we can improve on their departure.

Perfect for a weekend break.
A 20m walk or cheap taxi ride into Bath centre makes this simple, clean and friendly B&B perfect for a weekend break. Chris and Louise the owners were lovely and very helpful and knowledgeable about Bath. The continental breakfast was plentiful and all we needed to set us up for the day. The Bedroom was clean and modern and although not huge, was big enough for the limited time we spent in it. Great value, family run B&B, what more do you need?

Friendly and fab
I cannot recommend the Devonshire highly enough. I have always been wary of staying in a B&B after a couple of previous experiences, but I will certainly stay here again.
