Terrible hotel with a terrible host.
I booked this hotel because it was the only one near an event I was attending so I didn't check out the reviews first and I really wish I'd just forked out the money to stay somewhere else and pay for a taxi because this is one of the worst hotels I've ever stayed at.
When we arrived, the woman didn't say a word to us, leaving us standing around in the foyer in silence while she spoke to some other guests who had arrived just after us. She then claimed she didn't have a record of our booking which would have been okay if she didn't seem to angry about it and asked lots of questions as though I was lying and trying to trick her into staying at the hotel. She wouldn't even look at the email confirmation I had.
She made us settle our bill before even seeing the room and on seeing the room, and was really rude about it. I told them that something had come up so we no longer needed the breakfast which was an additional £14 but they tried to make me pay for it anyway. In the end, I paid £7 for absolutely nothing.
The room was single glazed and really cold. The towels were crunchy with a couple of holes in and the shower was a freezing cold trickle. While we at least had an ensuite in our room, some friends staying just had a 'shower' which was literally a shower head with a tray and a curtain round right there in the bedroom! How anyone thought that could be a good idea (especially in a twin room where you clearly dont want to watch another person showering), I have no idea.
This is the kind of shoddy standard of hotel I would expect to pay £30 or less for, not double that.
I knocked in their door to ask if I could borrow an iron as I was getting ready for an event and I could see her stand on the other side of the glass door and make a massive sigh of annoyance before opening it.
I have no idea why these people chose to own a hotel when they are so profoundly bad at dealing with people and treat them with open contempt.

Excellent stay
I lived in the area as a child and came to go to a friend's funeral. The hotel is near to the centre of Birmingham and the room had everything I needed for my stay.

This was really more a B and B than a hotel. No Bar. En-suite functional for small people

Wouldn't stay here again
The house itself is quite nice but needs a lot of money spent on it. The room I stayed in was small and basic with no en-suite toilet. Breakfast was uninspiring and anemic. Customer service was lacking warmth. If it wasn't such a good location for the University I don't think they would get much trade at all.

This is an inexpensive hotel and, not surprisingly, the accomodation was basic, but adequate
