Very good old fashioned B&B
The Old Station House is a very good old fashioned B&B.
The owners are always about to answer any questions you may have. They provide plenty of company, tea making facilities, fruit and water. The breakfast is very good. As the house is quite old it needs some modernisation but apart from that it is very comfortable. If you love going back in time then you will love this B&B.
An 'out of the ordinary' gem
I chose this B&B a) because of its location to Bamburgh and b) I was fascinated with it being an old railway station on the East Coast Mainline.
The owners (and particularly the hostess) have gone out of their way to think of everything. Fresh fruit in the room, bathrobes, etc. etc. all make this place stand out, plus they can't do enough to help. Bed, Bathroom and Breakfast all first rate. The building is old, and so properly built, such that the train noise is not a problem (although it was a shame for me, that I couldn't watch the trains from our room - wife pleased though lol). In the past two years we have stayed in very run-of-the-mill B&B's nearby so it was a real pleasure finding a B&B with character and quality, run by a couple who've thought of everything and obviously care. Would I stay there again. You bet!
Quirky rural stopover
Concerned about access - gateway between sharp bends and gate always closed.
No heating until September, even on colder days or in bathroom, so stone walls made it feel slightly damp. Very welcoming hostess keen to offer advice and assistance at all times and likes to chat. Complimentary fruit bowl, chocolates, milk and water along with a selection of teas, coffee, drinking choc. Unique decor. Fantastic bed. Huge TV plus DVDs. Free wifi.
Wonderful find of a bed and breakfast!
We stayed for 2 nights in the cottage room, and had a wonderful time.
The owner, Michelle, made us feel very much at home and was a fount of knowledge on the surrounding areas and places to go off the tourist trail. The breakfasts came highly recommend, both from other reviewers and the local taxi driver. Very tasty. The bnb itself is very rich in history and keeps some really interesting features. It is next to the train line, however no trains ran past us after 10pm and even during the day you quickly got used to them. Nice little touches with fruit bowl, fresh milk for tea and coffee and chocolates. We loved the open fire too, and were provided with some wood to build this ourselves, which was lovely and warm after being out in the early hours to star gaze (we saw so many shootibg stars!). We will definitely stay here again next time we visit Northumberland!
Old Station House B&B
Brilliant hostess, couldn't have been more helpful and kind.
Fantastic breakfast, not the usual cheap sausages in an oil slick. Great room with a massive bed, huge bath and shower, loads of little personal touches. To top it all off Gizmo the dog was a star. Very highly recommended.
Trains, good food and service a special treat
Arrived to find the booking in the bungalow was for a 2 bedroom annex.
Lots of original Victorian features with all the mod cons, a good kitchen, comfy bed and fabulous shower. Plenty of parking just outside the door. Michelle was lovely, excellent service nothing was too much trouble. A delicious healthy cooked breakfast that kept us going until tea time. Overall a lovely place to stay, to which we will definitely be returning. Thank you.
Lovely homely B&B
We had a wonderful time at the Old Station House B&B, Michelle was an incredible host and the accommodation was beautiful and very restful.
We had the most fantastic bath I have ever seen and our breakfast kept us going until dinner. Highly recommended, really very good value.
Quirky character accommodation near Bamburgh Castle
Fantastic little hideaway and the best night's sleep!
friendly and excellent breakfast.
We had a lovely experience at the Old Station House.
Michelle, the owner, immediately makes you feel very welcome and at home. Nothing is too much trouble for her. We had a lovely room - it was her standard room but there were lots of little extras. The bathroom was wonderful. Beautiful big bath, which is always a bonus for me. Lovely fittings. Very relaxing. Breakfast was hearty or if you'd eaten too much the night before (like me) a very nice light breakfast was also available. The building is very atmospheric and interesting. Trains. I can't deny that I did notice them going past but it is gone in seconds. Better than road traffic. Definitely worth a visit. We had a peek at the superior room too. Next time ....
