lovely hotel but room left a bit to be desired
We booked the hotel room quite late and to be fair we did get it cheap. The hotel is in a beautiful setting with lovely gardens. On the evening of our stay there was some sort of school musical festival on in the main hall which meant that the hotel had a feeling of being very busy. The room we were allocated was adequate for our one night stay. However we would not have wanted to stay there any longer. The wall between us and the adjacent room was so thin that we could clearly hear the conversation of the couple in this next room. As they conversely would have been able to hear us we kept our chatting to a minimum. I also found the single bed to be quite uncomfortable. I was happy to have paid only £38 for the room but would not have been happy to have paid the normal rate of in excess of £100.

ensuite double room
The room we had, was positioned at the furthest end away from reception, involving walking down what seemed like endless corridors. As we walked a smell was constantly present which i later discovered, was due to being above the kitchens. However the smell was reminisent of hospital kitchens, bland and heavy. The smell was present in the room we had, but after 24 hours with the windows open it had reduced. The room was small and would be better suited for a person on their own. The decoration looked very tired with woodchip wallpaper on the walls, the bed was old,the bathroom facilities very tight to move around in. However , the sun shone and the view out of the window of the garden was very pleasant. The external appearance of the building together with the gardens were very pleasing to the eye.We used the pool, but only 3 or 4 could use at one time if length swimming was involved. . Overall we had a very pleasant time and the location of the place was within walking distance of the town.

lovely surroundings
we really enjoyed our stay here; we had not realised that the hotel was set in large gardens, and most enjoyed listening to the birds singing, and hearing the tawny owls at night. We appreciated the quiet, and the old style elegance.

March 2014
I stayed here because of its location close to work.
There were set meal times, and consequently I missed breakfast and the evening meal.
On the plus side it was well priced and clean. The staff were very helpful and polite.
There are a few local pubs within easy walking distance which did food.
If staying in the winter, bring a torch, as the drive is unlit.

A real gem
Yes this hotel is a little dated, but it is such a joy to stay in a little bit of history. We spent one night here and made full use of the lovely pool and the extensive gardens.

nice place, friendly staff, good location
We stayed at the Sidholme Hotel for a night this February and found it to be well located, with friendly staff and nice clean rooms. Room service were quite eager in the morning but that's not entirely a bad thing. We got our room for an astoundingly cheap £35 by booking last minute so value for money was excellent.
