Reviews - The Luttrell Arms Hotel

3AA Assessed Hotel Ratings explained
Exmoor National Park , Dunster Nr Minehead, TA24 6SG
A beautiful 13th Century property set on a hillside in the quaint town of Dunster, located just 1 mile from the beach and even closer to the magnificent Dunster Castle. The hotel was used in medieval times as a guest house by the Abbots of Cleeve. Set in the only street in Dunster and within the Exmoor National Park, this sleepy hotel is an escapist’s paradise.

There are 28 bedrooms where guests enter and step back in time. Every room is unique and exquisitely furnished as if time had stood still. The magnificent four-poster beds are dwarfed by the high ceilings and exposed oak beams. In the winter the open fires glow and a very warm atmosphere is created throughout the hotel.

When dining there are two options to choose from in this intimate hotel. The Luttrell Arms Restaurant offers a more formal meal where the Head Chef has created some exciting meals based on the bests of modern British Cuisine. The bar which is styled as a traditional pub, serves meals that extend to the garden outside in the summer months for alfresco dining at its best.

Dunster is one of Somerset’s best kept secrets set between Exmoor National Park and The Bristol Channel. The village skyline is dominated by the castle standing on a hill that rises 85 metres above the sea. The home of the Luttrell family for over 600 years it is now a National Trust property. The Medieval village is a time capsule waiting to be discovered with history on every corner. There is even a steam railway to make sure the 21st Century is left well and truly behind.

Somerset offers much to see and do; there is something to suit every taste. There are a wealth of historic and famous castles and gardens, such as Dunster Castle, Wells Cathedral, Montacute House and Hestercombe Gardens. Great family attractions like Brean Leisure Park, Fleet Air Arms Museum, Haynes International Motor Museum, Wookey Hole and the Cheddar Caves. Plus stunning Natural Features such as Glastonbury Tor, Dunkery Beacon on Exmoor, Ham Hill Country Park and spectacular nature reserves such as Westhay, Ebbor Gorge and Tarr Steps.

Stayed for 3 nights. Dunster is a lovely place to stay and the hotel has real character. Although there are a number of free parking spaces very close, finding one available is a matter of luck. The hotel does, though, issue a pass for the nearby pay and display car park which can also be used in other villages and in Minehead. We were there during the very hot weather and we were provided with a fan which was helpful. The room, although a little on the small side, was very comfortable and spotless. The staff were excellent throughout. The package we had did not include breakfast and we personally feel that for the price we paid for the room, it should have done - we ended up driving into Minehead and having breakfast there. We had dinner at the hotel and really enjoyed all the meals we had - superb standard. Would certainly go back again on a more reasonable package with breakfast included but not otherwise.

lovely Country Hotel
A lovely quite country hotel. All the staff we very pleasant and welcoming from the moment I arrived to the moment I left. Only problem I had was I was staying with a registered Blind Partner. We were given room 15 which has two steps down inside the room and then two steps up the main part of the room . It was also down these two steps to get to the bath room! The hotel had been told of this when booking and made on offer of a different room when we booked in. So much for the disabled.

It was a great pity that such a lovely hotel in every other way provided such a poor quality evening meal (the breakfast was fine). The steak was tough, chips inedible, pasta undercooked and bland! So disappointing as the hotel staff and accommodation are first class.

What a find!
An absolutely special place to stay! We had a four poster room, well worth the money and beautifully presented and serviced. Food at dinner and breakfast is chosen from a wide menu and was first class. Service and welcoming from staff excellent. Would love to stay again. Other hotels could learn from this fine example!!!!

Dog friendly hotel
I booked a twin room for my self and my sister and her dog-the hotel could not have been more accommodating, providing a bed in the room for the dog, and provided a specific room for eating in case we did not want to leave the dog alone in the bedroom. All the other guests must have been dog friendly too, as our dog was greeted by everyone, including the staff

Always a pleasure to stay at the Luttrell. With the new owners and a refurbishment it was great!
We colud not stay in our usual 4 poster room overlooking the Yarn Market so a slight dissapointment on arrival but didn't spoil our stay there for one night stop over.

Lovely Hotel
Service was great, very friendly. The only thing that would stop me staying here again is the price of the rooms.
