Ramada Crawley-Gatwick

I booked the Ramada because the Ramada branded oozes quality, refinement and class.

However this hotel was anything but. To begin with, the hotel has no lifts, if you're on the second or third floor and having to carry luggage back and forth, that can be an issue. As for the shower, either it has no water pressure or provides no warm/hot water. I complained numerous times about this and was told to turn the hot bath top on for a few minutes to release the air gaps from the pipes. I asked for this to be repaired but I was told it can't be. When moving to a new room, that shower had no water pressure. I probably generate more water pressure as I urinate. For some reason the hotel attracts pigeons. I could not open my window enough or for long enough just in case a pigeon came into my room. Sleeping was difficult because all you could hear was the pigeons. Perhaps some type of medicine or repellent is needed to keep them away. This is room 23 I believe The hair dryer was poor too. Didn't really generate enough blowing power.Generally the hotel is too old and dated, it does not live up to the Ramada brand. Ideally it needs a bulldozer and rebuilding again. The only good thing about the room was the tea and teabags, but surely you can't get those wrong. In addition, there is a bar just next door to the hotel and it can get loud on weekends.

Just about adequate

You normally associate words like 'quality' and 'above standard' with the Ramada franchise, but this hotel is anything but.

The location and structural set up of the building doesn't help. It's just a giant maze with no lift. The electrics need to be checked because every time I plugged the iron, charger or hair dryer, I would hear this buzzing sound. That can't be safe.

The shower was so temperamental, some days I wouldn't get any warm water at all and on other days when I want a warm shower, I'd get hot water, despite turning the nob to cold. At other times, I would get very little water pressure, I mean, without being to graphic, but I could create more water pressure urinating.

If you opened the bathroom window, you'd get a foul stench. The hotel seems to attract pigeons, so you couldn't even leave the windows open for long and fully.

The only reason why I chose the Ramada was is because other hotel was fully booked and it's close to London Road.

The carpets need replacing, the windows need cleaning and the walls need a lick of paint.

This hotel is borderline adequate.

Good value for money, clean, quiet.

Stayed at the hotel as a base for a night out, very convenient location as right in town centre, but room wasn't noisy at all.

Clean and good value for money. Would stay again. My only small gripe is the room was very hot and stuffy, even with the window open. A fan would be good, especially coming into the summer months now.

Night Before Holiday

The room was good, comfortable and clean.

Unfortunately there is no lift, so not a good place to stay the night before a flight unless you are travelling very light or can get a ground floor room. Hotel appeared to be being used by asylum seekers. It is a disconcerting experience to be preparing to jet off on a holiday when some people with nothing but the clothes on their backs are wandering around. I realise all hotels are grateful of the money this provides, but it has put me off using the option of a night stay before the holiday again. I will probably use the money to pay for a taxi to the airport instead.

Charles' Review

A basic but excellent hotel, and exceptional value for money.

Good signposting too, which is important if you are navigating in a strange town while driving.

Room Numbers

The room number signage was very misleading, think some of the sign was missing.

Took a while to find room. Breakfast was lovely.

Good, clean, comfy bed, everything you need.

Was a bit too warm for my liking, I don't know if heating could have been turned down, I didn't want to disturb my partner so didn't check, but that's the only thing that stopped me sleeping well apart from that everything was fine.

Only a chinese restaurant in house but there were plenty of places to eat right outside.

Double Bed - really?????

The hotel car park was very crowded and we had to wait for a parking space to be able to unload our luggage and get in.

The staff were friendly enough. The whole place was very clean but the room was not much bigger than a cupboard and the double bed may have been a single slightly extended. The most uncomfortable nights sleep (not that I got much with my back pressed against the wall and my feet against the wardrobe at the bottom of the bed) that I have ever had. I had to climb in and out of the bed from the end, I could not have a glass of water next to me as well that was the wall - had to get up to have my cup of tea in the morning rather than have it in bed. I would have been more comfortable in a tent. Won't be repeating the experience!
