Outside noise
Unfortunately the room i had was above and backed on to a rear car park area which appeared to also be a public right of way. This resulted in all 3 nights of my stay being subjected to disturbance from drunken louts under or in close proximity to my window from approximately 12 midnight until 1 am. I would not stop in a rear room again.

9/8/13
Very kindly allowed an early book in to accommodate our timetable. Room was clean and had all the little extras you would expect. Our room was quietly located but our relatives had a room at the front and were kept awake til the early hours by the local revellers. Recommend you ask for a room at the rear if you want a quiet night.

Staff and hotel very good but noise frim our hotel room was dreadful, nightclub opposite
Hotel was very nice ,room fine and staff fine but the room we were given, apparently was opposite a night club and the noise was terrible until 3pm in the morning. the receptionist obviously knew about the problem when she asked our room number which was 21, and gave us £15 discount, we would have rather had a good nights sleep than £15 discount.!

It was well situated for exploring the area and a lively spot so not exactly a quiet get away, though that was not what we personally were looking for. We thought it was a little pricey at time of booking but were very pleased with the cleanliness, tidiness and comfort of the room we were given and the views of the town were good too.
We were on our wedding anniversary break and the hotel staff greeted us with a "congratualtions" as we arrived and we found a complimentary bottle of wine in a cooler in the room which was a lovely inviting touch. We would definitely come and stay again.
It may not be ideal for a romantic get away in that there was quite a lot of noise from the patio in the evening (we were right above it, it didn't disturb us but it seems a very popular pub for hen and stag parties and wedding guests so not exactly a retreat.
The food in the restaurant was very good although we were a little put off that although most of us guests had dressed for their evening meal, one couple were allowed into the restaurant in shorts t-shirt and flip flops as if they had just stepped off a beach, that made our anniversary meal feel a little less special when we and the other guests had made an effort to dress for dinner. I don't mean they should have to wear ties or suits, just be smart as most men there did wear a shirt and tie and formal trousers. It would just be in keeping with the high standards of the staff, service and food of the restaurant. A minor and personal point.
If you wanted to raise the standards just a fraction to get that extra star rating attention to peeling paintwork and cracks in ceiling and walls wouldn't go a miss, these are to be expected with a building of this period and it certainly did not put us off just think you deserve a higher rating.
We will definitely think about coming to stay again.

Our stay
There is nothing about our stay that we can complain about, the staff are all very polite and friendly from front of house, bar, etc. Food and quality outstanding, pillows in the room are amazing good nights sleep aside from the heat

Disappointed
My wife and I spent 3 nights with friends at the Crown. During our stay there was no internet connection and no excuse was given. On all 3 occasions breakfast was poor, boiled eggs which were grossly undercooked, scrambled eggs like caramel sauce and a traditional english which seemed to have been cooked hours earlier and re-heated. Sorry but not impressed at all. The room, though clean and tidy was very small and cramped.

too expensive
very expensive as accomodation is very ordinary. Room was clean, and hotel is very nice, but for a basic room out of town , i would have expected a price around £55 not £100. Food was fantastic , however, staff okay. Would only go again of price was lower.
