Noise issues

Lovely room and nice modern reception.

I had two keys that didn't work so twice had to go back to reception, up and down many stairs. Staff lovely and friendly. Room modern and mostly clean apart from some thick dust on the mirror and bed headboard. Nice touch of toiletries in the room for each person staying.

Noise issues; there were a few. you can hear other people's bathroom fans in the middle of the night. Also, most annoying, there was loud music played at just after 4am - woke me up - I phoned reception who said they would come up and see but they thought it was 'THE FLATS' located at the back of the hotel. The noise stopped for 10 minutes then the security man came to check but as soon as he went down the stairs it started again and went on until almost 6am. The security guard and obviously the hotel know about the flats playing loud music - I suggest you deal with that through the council. Lots of squeaky floorboards so when people walked past your room the noise was very loud. I would stay again but would ask not to have a room near those flats.

Also on returning back from meeting friends at about 9pm, there was no one at the bar.

Finally, it would have been nice for someone to talk us through the room service, how to ring reception etc. Spent a while in the middle of the night going through the many pamphlets looking for the number to ring.

Please do deal with the noise from the flats - this would be a deal breaker for my next stay in October. I travel to Wolverhampton every 6 - 8 weeks.

Beyond Shocking, loud and full of pot smoke

Stayed here and arrived with a baby late at night, asked the receptionist if a cot was in the room as per our booking instructions and got told it was.

Got given a key and despite asking for a ground floor room upon booking we had to walk upstairs and a long way to get to the room. The key didn't work so had to go back and get another, which also didn't work. Eventually the receptionist had to come and let us in using the master key but we wasted 20 minutes late at night with a baby trying to get in the room. When we did get into the room, the cot was not there so our baby had to go in the bed with us as I was too tired to complain and I just needed to get him down. I went into the bathroom, which was newly decorated to lift the toilet to find the seat covered in dried wee. I knew if my wife saw this she would hit the roof and ask for a room change or want to go to another hotel so I cleaned it up myself. We had a poor nights sleep too due to no cot. There was no lock on the bathroom door too - quite useful for privacy. The tiles on the newly done bathroom were cracked on the floor and the sink was annoying as it didn't have a plug but a fancy twisting thing that meant you would have to put your hands in dirty water to drain it. Also, the wall paper was pealing off the bedroom walls and I had to kill two spiders. The next day when we got back, there was thumping music until midnight which meant we again couldn't go to sleep until after midnight. The corridors on the way to the room smelled of strong pot and we had to expose our baby to that when trying to get into our room. I complained to the duty manager about that and no cot, and he asked for one to be sent but we waited for half an hour and it didn't arrive so had to put our son in bed again with us - so again an awful nights sleep. We selected this hotel purposley avioding the Novotel as that was near the town centre clubs and pubs so thought it would be quiter but the wedding party was nosiey for several hours. We ended up waking up late and were not in a great state to attend the 50th birthday party we had driven up for. Although the duty manager gave us a bottle of wine (probably worth £4 to the hotel) the service and experience was the worst of any hotel in the UK and we have travelled extensively. Avoid if you want a clean room or quite night's sleep, select it if you like loud music, no privacy and pot smokers. It's a wedding venue but the sound proofing is not there so again stay away on the weekends too if you want sleep.

Handy for Royale Banqueting Suite

We chose this hotel based on location, being nearest to the Royale Banqueting Suite where we were attending a function.

As we spent very little time in the room, it was perfectly adequate, a clean and tidy room to get ready in and sleep in. We did not use any of the hotel facilities.

The corridors in the hotel were all oppressively hot, and in our room the heated towel rail was permanently full on, with no thermostatic control to turn it down. We had to close the bathroom door and have the window wide open. I reported it on checkout, but it must have been like that for some time and the maids must have known when they put the towels on it.

I would not recommend this hotel for a leisure break in Wolverhampton - but OK if you are attending the Royale Banqueting Suite.

Good value

We stayed in the older part of the hotel.The room was very pleasant and quite cool during the hot weather.

The pool was warm which meant our grandchildren 3 and 5 stayed in for over an hour and a half.we enjoyed it so much we decided to stay an extra night.

BEAUTIFUL ROOM

I believe I stayed in room 44 and I have to say it was one of the most beautiful hotel rooms I have ever stayed in.

Really big open room and big bathroom, would honestly recommend to anyone.

A bit cold

We have stayed at the goldthorne during the summer and it was lovely but this time the room felt too cold.

Single glazing doesn't help at all.

Tired, needs updating.

At first glance room looked great, paid extra for superior room, four poster bed etc.

Look a little closer and the cobwebs, Cracked tiles and brown silicone around bath were obvious. We were also kept awake most of the night either by the fire door slamming in the corridor or by other guests in adjacent rooms arguing. Breakfast was good and staff were very nice.

would stay again

A good basic hotel but with the bonus of a swimming pool and sauna.

The leisure centre has seen better days but totally functional and it was nice to have the pool to myself for much of my swim.

Very easy and comfortable

clean, no issues, comfortable.

Leisure facilities a little down at heal but a perfectly comfortable sauna before a long journey home.
