Reviews - The Rusland Pool Hotel

3Self Classified Hotel Ratings explained
Newby Bridge, On the A590, , Ulverston, LA12 8AA
Rusland Pool Hotel, was built in 1814 and is a popular destination for both holidaymakers and business travellers alike, whilst enjoying a reputation amongst the locals for a very high standard of food and a friendly, informal service. Situated beside the A590 between Newby Bridge and Ulverston, the main thoroughfare to and from South Lakeland, the Furness and Cartmel Peninsulas & the West Cumbrian coast and just within the Lake District National Park, we offer a warm welcome. We offer an extensive home cooked menu, supplemented by mouthwatering chef's specials, that will satisfy the most discerning of diners. Whether for lunch, dinner or an informal snack our Bars and conservatory serve food every day from 12 noon until 9pm Sundays 7pm . We offer 18 spacious, modern, well appointed bedrooms. Each bedroom has an ensuite bathroom with bath and/or shower, colour 32inch TV, direct dial telephone, radio, hairdryers, tea and coffee making facilities and Free WiFi. In the mornings guests can enjoy a full English breakfast, using the best fresh local ingredients. Cumbria is a land of beauty and variety, from its busy cities and historic market towns to its stone and slate villages, each possessing their own character. Cumbria's landscape is diverse; wild fells and high passes with endless views stir the imagination. Quiet pastoral countryside and valleys enchant; rivers twist and tumble. Glacial lakes reflect cloud-topped mountains and man-made drystone walls march across the dales. Woodlands and coastal scenery add to the mix. The legacy of the past is here in prehistoric and Roman remains - stone circles & burial cairns dot the land, and old Roman roads and forts still command attention. Historic places of worship and ruined castles speak of Norman times. Country houses and gardens delight the visitor. Walkers call this county 'paradise'; everywhere the grandeur of the scenery speaks to the glory of Cumbria... welcome to this much-loved land.

Rusland Pool
We arrived a little early for check in so had a drink in the bar first. The staff were really polite and friendly. There was an advertisement for an offer for Valentines day saying that you could get the room and 2 meals for the same price we booked the room for so when checking in we asked if we could use this. We were unfortunately told that as we had booked online we couldn't make use of any offers. So after looking at the menu we decided that the food was quite pricey and ate elsewhere. Our room was also right above the kitchen and next to the main stairs up to the rooms. So it was quite noisy up until about 11o'clock. However it did get quieter after that and the bed was very comfy. If I went again I would definitely book direct to get the best deal and ask to not have room 1. Overall the owners and staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and since it is a 200 year building so not their fault the stairs creaked. :) gorgeous setting and full of character. Not too far from windermere. I would go again.

Most welcoming family hotel
I regularly visit thto South Lakes and always look out for Late Room deals for the Rusland Pool Hotel. Since staying here some years ago, I've seen the hotel upgrade its rooms, fast moving it into the 21st century with free wi-fi, decent size flat screen tv's etc.
The restaurant and bar are very friendly areas with most helpful and willing staff, and the menu offers a good choice of freshly prepared food. The haggis and black pudding with herb sauce starter is a meal in itself, Breakfasts are excellent too.
The best rooms are at the back, away from the traffic of the busy main A590 Barrow road.
