Queens Hotel , Newport
If you need to travel this is a very clean , comfortable and good value for money hotel which is a stones throw away from the railway station and with a NCP car park which is gives a reduced rate for guests.
Being next to the pub is no problem as you are insulated from noise , in the room I was stopping in anyway and the hotel has a completely separate entrance. I stumbled on this by chance , glad I did.
Don't stay on a Friday or Saturday if you want a night's sleep
The noise from the disco below was extremely loud and went on until 4 am.
No chance of a night's sleep. Food in the bar was typical bar food but was never served hot. Cheep and cheerful would describe the bar.
Base for rugby game in Cardiff
Very good base and very good value as a base for a game in cardiff
Room for improvement
I was well informed by the staff on arrival with regard to noise issues but found on the Friday night the music got louder as the night wore on.
The only inconvenience in my room was that the socket for the kettle next to the tray was blanked off and I had to use another socket in the room. Lastly some door closures were very noisy when some residents returned in the early hours the doors were left to bang very loudly waking me several times. But overall I enjoyed my stay at The Queens Hotel
Alarm bells ringing
Centrally located in Newport City Centre.
If your a party animal and don't mind being awoken late at night this is for you. If you need a good rest after a hard day - avoid due to the adjoining club.
Hotel staff were excellent.
We wanted to check in a bit earlier as we were going to Cardiff for the rugby and they were able to do this for us.
Great place to stay in the Newport area
Good accommodation but the if you want to have a sensible conversation in the pub on a Friday or Saturday night, suggest you go to another Wetherspoon's pub the John Wallace Linton in Cambrian Road about 200 metres away.
But my friends loved the Chilli Concarne in the Queen's Hotel as well as the drinks. I enjoyed an excellent bitter. The shower was superb, wish I could have taken it home. The bed was a little too firm for me but my sister-in-law loved hers. Noise from a different establishment and crashing of bottles at 3am from that same place marred the experience but Queen's Hotel management undertook to speak to the third party. Flexibility of the booking (cancel up till noon on day of stay) is a positive - a previous stay elsewhere had to be cancelled at short notice and the insurance company insisted on seeing a death certificate for the son of one of my party. Overall, a good place to stay and if you are IT literate you can get a reduction on the 24 parking charge but if you are very lucky and staying on a Saturday park for free in a bay. Couples staying in a double bed get the best value i.e. £50 as opposed to £40 for a single
Great cheap stay
Great staff very friendly ideal for stepping of the train straight into the hotel.
Food was very nice and good prices.
Wet and Wild in Newport!
A very nice and pleasant stay at this pub/hotel, staff very friendly and helpful.
Was warned that there might be some noise from the Saturday nightclub but the room I was in was quite quiet. Never stayed before in an inn before and was most pleasantly surprised, if only something could've been done about the weather which was torrential rain through the stay. Might be a problem if the weather gets very hot and sunny as there is no air con apart from a portable office fan.
Great for position
Room okay but not as good as other Wetherspoons we have stayed at. Castors on bed and having to prop open window with a chair - not ideal. Worse thing was the noise - I was kept awake until 6am by revellers from the night club. Our room was right above the main pub door and we were warned there would be some noise on arrival. The friends travelling with us stayed in a room on the side of the building and it wasn't a problem for them.
