45% would recommend it to a friend
should be renamed worst western hotel, unbelievably run down, staff were fine as was the breakfast, but would never stay there again
Convenient for station, inexpensive for city B&B but don't look at the decor
Very close to station and a 10 minute walk to city centre, this hotel provides an inexpensive overnight stay (for a city B&B).
The receptionist was friendly and organised someone to carry up my bag (no lift). My ensuite room was adequate for an overnight stay but sadly dilapidated with plaster falling off the walls and rather grubby appearance. I enjoyed my cooked breakfast but the cereal and tinned fruit salad were not up to the standard I had become used to in other SW B&Bs.
Basic and functional hotel
Basic and functional hotel.
Great for somewhere to stay when visiting Exeter.
Hotel needs major refurbishment, not at a standard that should be acceptable
The picture of this hotel is extremely flattering to say the least.
This is a very tired and run-down hotel needing a good paint and upgrade all round. Basic and clean with friendly staff but certainly not more than 3 stars at the most. My single room had an extremely noisy air-vent outside the window, which ran for 10 minutes a go, with about 5 minutes respite in between, all day and night. When I asked for another room, I was told I'd have to pay more for a double. Should have paid an extra £20 for the hotel over the road. Couldn't really recommend I'm afraid.
Welcome was non existent, first room I had to change as toilet was leaking all over bathroom floor.
Not what you want after 4 hour drive at 9.30pm !!. 2nd room was just awful too . Lights not working , not clean in toilet , covers on bed a dodgy off white colour .It was like a bad version of fawlty towers. There was no parking as stated and we did not dare eat breakfast.
Worst hotel I've ever stayed in
Where do I start but this is the worst hotel I've ever had to stay in.
The room was dirty, it's like they don't own a Hoover or even a cloth. The sink was filthy not been cleaned from previous occupants.
The shower was basically a couple of drips. Would of had a better shower sitting in the sink with the tap on. Rooms were very old fashioned; needs updating. Stains on the bed sheets.
Customer service was very poor when asked if I could check in early, I was greeted with a sarcastic comment saying, 'didn't you read the website, check in not till 2:00'.
The food, well I'm not even going to mention that. Failed to finish my sausage sandwich as the sausages were not cooked right through, still pink in middles . Would not recommend staying here.
Hotel or hostel?
Needed a room at short notice for a quick stop over.
It was warm & dry and I had a reasonable nights sleep, so did the job. The decor is from the 70's, which was probably the last time it was done. Looks tired and a bit grubby, but it was clean. There was a nice brown stain on the wall above the head end. Nice. The bedding was beige coloured and a bit off putting to be honest. The quilt was too small for the bed and the sheet had marks on it. A herd of elephants were in the room directly above mine, at least that's what it sounded like as I laid in bed late, and they were up early also. At least I didn't need my alarm. I'm not sure if it's within present health & safety regulations to have a mains light in the shower cubicle, but I lived to tell the tale. Parking was £9.90 for 24hrs. I paid £42 for single room B&B for a Friday night stop. They were late opening for breakfast and didn't appear in any hurry, but I was, so I skipped sampling any hot food. The cereal and coffee was ok though. Personally, I wouldn't stay there again and would rather pay a bit more for a more modern facilities.
Clean and tidy very good staff excellent location and overall a lovely stay.
Great value for money
Excellent value for money, and a great location directly besides the train station (which is why I booked it originally).
Have read some negative reviews, and probably the rooms could be updated, however I think the housekeeping staff do a wonderful job - and the room was very clean and comfortable. Special mention also to the lady who managed the breakfast room, lovely customer service and breakfast. All in all, a comfortable overnight stay for a bargain price, next to the station.
