The check in desk
I booked the grand hotel on the thursday night for the following evening.
I arrived around 8.45pm the following evening, i stood in a queue for around 15minutes gave my booking reference number only to be told it did not exist. I found the woman on reception to be unhelpful and quite rude and was told she has to see a copy of my email confirmation. i did not have this but did have my booking refernce number. i was told there was a computer in the lobby but people were on it. so i had to run over to a hotel across the road to get my emails up and take photos on my phone to show her. As i got back into the grand hotel the computer was not being used so i put more money in that one to get my booking up on the screen there. i did this nd when i went back to reception to tell her so she can look at this she told me to go to the back of the queue again. Of course i refused to do this as im getting stressed out now about this and told her to get the manager.
The manager seemed a lot more helpful and wanting to help than the receptionist. After seeing my booking on the screen he did apologise made me a small discount and upgreded my room. I was asked to pay even though i had gave my card details on my original booking. i paid again after being promised i could not be billed for the first booking as they did not have this booking. so i paid.
Then after managing to go out in scarborough around a hour and a half after arrival i checked my bank and the original booking money had been took out, so in the morning i go to reception the same manager was there he told me i had been charged as a no show he had then realised his mistake and put the money bank in my bank. This was friday evening he said he did it its now monday evening the moneys still not in my bank.
He said the reason the was a mess up as they had recieved information saying i would arrive at 8pm on the thursday even though i never booked this till 10.30pm on the thurs at thats 2 and a half hours before i booked it ????????.
so ive found this to be stressful at the least and am still waiting for my refund,
However i did find the room of good value and if it was not for the booking mess up i would have been happy with my stay instead of being stressed about it

A Great Iconic building in Scarborough, however if you are a business traveller this place is not for you. It caters mainly for senoir citizens on holiday touring in the north. The room I was given was tiny the mattress uncomfortable and old. The meals and breakfast to say the least were very bland and tasteless, and to cap off matters someone had urinated in the lift and it smelt aweful.

The not so grand hotel
We had an internal room which meant being being 3 floors underground in a room we referred to as the dungeon as it didnt have a window. The room was clean but it smelled fusty and it was damp - the bed and bedding were damp, as were our clothes and you could see the mould coming through the wall. God forbid if there had been a fire! I dont know how they have got away with putting all those rooms down there. We did try to find anothe hotel but everywhre was full so had to putnup with it. Fortunately it was just for 1 night as there is nonway Inwould have stayed there any longer.

Never Again!
We booked a Double Deluxe Room and I feel sorry for anyone who stayed in a lesser room.
The hotel needs a complete revamp, not just painting. Room and alleyway carpets are past it. The wallpaper in room No.1 was peeling of the wall. The bathroom was barely functionable with mould in the shower. Breakfast was reasonable, though the bacon was cremated. The sea view from our room was a waste of time as the windows were filthy. We didn't bother having the evening meal or staying for the entertainment as we were just glad to get out of the hotel. Never Again!
