The only downside was the shower in our room as rubbish it was cold we left it for
Over 10 minutes and it was still cold so we had to have a wash using the sink
As the hot water was ok from there
nice old fashion room with roomy en suite with walk in shower.only fault latch on window broken off.
This small hotel had improved a lot since my last stay, as mentioned, latch on one window broken off so could't open this window, but can easily be fixed.
also no double glazing so traffic noise could bother some visitors, apart from this, hotel in excellent spot on high street near all shops, pubs and restaurants. Liked my room very much large and bright, very comfy bed. views looks out on to high street. For privacy you need to keep curtains drawn as buildings opposite can get a view into the room.
Lovely Room but..
It was a great room, nice and clean but there was an air freshner in the bathroom which constantly spurted out, unfortunately I am asthmatic and it gave me an attack, we had to leave early which was a shame because I would have liked to have had a look round shifnal itself.
only stayed for one night comfortable friendly staff
The Od Inn
My husband and I decided at the last minute to pop over to visit friends in Shropshire.
We checked out the hotel we normally stopped at but it was fully booked, so put it in a quick scan and The Odfellows came up at a very reasonable price, compared to others. After a look at the reviews, we booked anyway and was pleasantly surprised with our experience. Our room was lovely, clean and warm.
We ate in the restaurant and the food was fantastic. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The atmosphere was friendly and warm. It's our new favourite place to stop and I would recommend it without a second thought.
No heating or hot water - in January!
Friendly and helpful staff.
I arrived to find a very cold room. The radiator was cold at the bottom moving to just luke warm at the top. Made a cup of tea, having had to wash the cups (which looked clean but who knows), saucers (which were literally stuck together with sugar) and teaspoon (which was sticky) One of the three longlife milks provided was open, so I disposed of that. Popped out to get some food and asked staff for more milk and to fix the heating. Came back to find lots of milk and a small blow heater in the room, which sadly wasn't sufficient to keep me warm so I spent the evening as well as the night under the duvet, which smelt of urine, so good job the shower worked in the morning. There was no hot water to the washbasin at any point. The hotel is a wonderful building with an interesting, eclectic mix of furniture and fittings. The bathroom had obviously been refurbished relatively recently and looked good, but cleanliness left a lot to be desired and no heating, in England, in the middle of January - seriously!!
Good enough for the price I paid I suppose
The hotel was fine and quiet.
Nothing fancy. The first night I nearly froze because the windows had been left open and the room got very cold. The heating was not on for long enough to warm the place for the night and the blankets were not sufficient. However I mentioned this the next day and the staff did everything possible to accommodate me: they gave me a small heater and an extra duvet, which I greatly appreciate. The girls were lovely and they really made me feel welcome. The room was huge and clean. My only negative comment is about the bedding that looked old and yellow, especially the pillow cases; and the kettle needs descaling or replacing, I couldn't use it. Apart from that is good for just 2 nights sleep for £78. I wouldn't recommend it for a romantic retreat, country escape, family holiday or relaxing spa break.
The hotel is in a charming old building.
However, if the same attention were given to the accommodation as to the bar and what appears to be a very good menu for the restaurant, it could be so much better. The room was not clean, and was in a state of disrepair, and seems to be a neglected part of the business. I would hope that these issues be addressed, as I actually found the staff very nice, and if they were, then I would consider using the hotel again.
Great customer service
After being given a room that was unsuitable I asked if there was the possibility of changing and the staff were extremely helpful in accommodating my request.
A chain of glitches ending in pain
This hotel is in a lovely position and if the little things are addressed then it would be quite a nice place to stay.
But, they could not find my booking to start with, but that said, the best thing about this stay was the staff......... After that it was downhill. The kettle didn't work, the TV remote had no batteries, the shower scalded my daughter and the bed squeaked all night. There was hair in the shower tray, mess under the bed and filth under the sofa. The bathroom smelt musty (which I suppose was in keeping with its age) but we were unable to open the window to air it through. Health and safety wise - I would recommend that the hotel have signs on the doors explaining that they are incredibly heavy. My little girl put her hand out to stop the door slamming and nearly lost the top of her finger in the door jam. She was left with a crushed finger. I hate to think what would have happened if she had been a toddler or younger child.
