4Self Classified Hotel Ratings explained
17 Douglas Square, , , Newcastleton, TD9 0QD
The Newcastleton Liddesdale Hotel is located in Douglas Square at the heart of Newcastleton (sometimes referred to as Copshaw Holm); a 17th century village planned by the 3rd Duke of Buccleugh, set in the peaceful, unspoilt countryside of Roxburghshire. The Hotel location combines the relaxing aspect of a remote rural settlement whilst being only half an hour’s drive to Carlisle and the motorway network. Despite the decline of traditional industries, Newcastleton remains a very healthy and vibrant rural economy, assisted by the development of tourism and many new small businesses. Fully refurbished by new owners in 2008 the hotel is the perfect accommodation while staying in the area. Our three star hotel can offer you excellent food and wine, well appointed accommodation including Wi-Fi Internet and Sky TV in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Whether your stay is just for one night or much longer we are sure you will enjoy being with us. Newcastleton is an important location to anyone interested in Border Reiver history and has various clan links, particularly Armstrong and Elliot. It also hosts a number of sporting and cultural events. Covering about eighteen hundred square miles, the Scottish Borders stretches from the rolling hills and moorland in the west, through gentler valleys to the high agricultural plains of the east, and on to the rocky Berwickshire coastline with its secluded coves and picturesque fishing villages. In the bright spring months, fresh new growth fills the valleys and forests of the Scottish Borders. Enjoy time to spare with the lure of lighter longer summer days or relax in more mellow shades of autumn when mauves and purples tint the moors. Crunch through the crisp frosts of winter, when early morning mist floats over the lowlands, and the snow capped hills sparkle in the distance. Land and sea, hills and moorland all sit happily side by side.

Short break
We stayed three nights in the Liddesdale Hotel - a last minute booking. We enjoyed our stay, the room was very clean but the hotel is in need of a refurbishment. TV in the room was very small and sounded extremely tinny. There was a lot of noise/door slamming coming from the bar downstairs at night which made it difficult to sleep.
The chef/manager is a credit to this hotel, very friendly and chatty. The food is fresh home made and he made us feel very welcome.

Best nights sleep
The four poster bed had the most comfortable mattress and both my wife and I had the best nights sleep. the breakfast was fresh and tasty and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. When we checked out we mentioned it was our 25th anniversary and the host said that if he had known he would have made us something special for our meal, which considering the fact we were supposed to be abroad, brought a tear to my wife's eye.
Fantastic service and beautiful area to stay, made even better by a perfect host

Great night
I booked the room as a surprise for my husband's birthday and we had one of the best nights ever. The hotel is clean and comfortable, I had the best fish and chips I have ever tasted, and the owner Tom and other staff could not have been friendlier. We stayed up much later than we should have and the owner even gave my husband a glass of whisky when the clock churned midnight to mark his birthday. We came away feeling like locals.

Wonderful Staff, Beautiful Location, Superb value for money
From the moment we arrived the staff made us feel exceptionally welcome.
The room was wonderful, and the corner bath in our room was an extra bonus! The local people in the pub make you feel very at home, and there was no problem with noise being above the bar.
The number one point though was the flexibility, food was pretty much always available and the chef is absolutely top notch!
Thanks again for a wonderful New Year
