Dangerous units and plug sockets
The room was ok, spoilt by a flashing LED in the fire alarm that was placed directly over the bed.
This kept us awake at night. It was surprisingly bright at night with the lights off. OK, a fire alarm is required, but over the bed, and flashing - really.
everything I expected, classy comfortable and polite well trained staff.
It galls to pay parking on top though , even if only 3 for staying guests..Just include it in the price per night rather than a seperate charge!!..doesnt matter if claiming business expenses but for leisure it comes across as penny pinching....wonderful king size bed though!!
Hilton Newbury North
We arrived at the hotel at 10pm, when we went to the delux family room for 3 adults only the double bed was made up, and therefore we called reception to make another bed up.
Unfornately they did not do this and 50 minutes later we had to ask again via room service. When they arrived they didn't have a bottom sheet and took an extra 10 minutes to get this at which point we were very tired. The neighbours were very loud. There was no air con and therefore it was very noisy and felt like sleeping in 'the fast lane'.
Lovely staff but poor value for money and refurbishment needed
The staff were friendly and helpful throughout - their service is not in question.
But a bit like certain budget airlines everything was extra and that is not clearly flagged on the 'deal' price - parking £3-5 (for a hotel well out of town), internet access extra, breakfast extra, and wine expensive - £11.50 for a large glass compared to £7.50 at the far superior Donnington Spa up the road. The room needed redecoration, the mattress was fairly hard, the plumbing poor - I was told to run both the sink and bath taps simultaneously to get rid of the hot water from the 'cold' tap, the shower control was so stiff I couldn't shift it, and to round it off when I woke in the morning and looked outside there was a large rats burrow clearly visible below the room (thankfully I was on the first floor) - complete with rat catching stuff but lots of rats visible - yuk. In comparison I would rather stay at the Travelodge at Chievely - just across the road from here - cheaper, cleaner and free parking.
We were placed in a co-joining room with a family of 5.
3 screaming kids to keep us awake all night and early morning. The cleaner tried to barge into our room to clean at half 8 in the morning, despite our do not disturb sign and without knocking. I had put the bolt across the door (I recommend you do this) so she couldn't enter. But this didn't stop her from trying again. Also came back 30 minutes later to try again. Check out was at 12. Bathroom was dirty and the room was not worth the money we paid.
my stay at the hilton
was a nice room and had an extra bed so the kids didn't have to share, the double bed was quite hard but the sofabed made up for it, but was a shame to see mould in the bathroom, but we would stay again, it was nice to know that there is a swimming pool and gym.
The only thing that let the room down was the matress, it was the hardest we've every slept on and creaked at every move.
Partner hardly got any sleep, which after a a very long day was'nt good. Receptionist at check-out informed us that all mattresses had recently been changed for new ones, i stated that we had stayed at a few hotels in the area and that some cheaper ones had far superior matresses. Also the bathroom extractor fan ran all night and was noisey and the toilet was hard to flush. Bathroom paintwork look well past a renewal. I was also not informed at booking that there was a charge for car parking. All in all not what you expect from a Hilton hotel
Our Saturday at the Hilton
We got a very friendly welcome up on our arrival on Saturday afternoon.
The service was friendly throughout. Alas the facilities weren't. The sink and bath were both blocked. As we each showered the bath was steadily filling up. It took quite a while to drain off. The same applied to the sink as we were cleaning out teeth the same happened. All in all the staff were helpful and friendly and our stay could have been a lot worse
