Romantic break away
A really lovely summer break away at a super hotel in rural Somerset. Be stayed in a superior room with a four poster bed and a huge bathroom with a bath and shower big enough for two to share!
This was my second visit and I love coming back to this hotel which manages to retain it's laid back country house style and charm. The staff are very attentive and eager to please. Looking forward to coming here again.

Outdated and pretentious
We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. The room we had was large with a 4 poster bed, however drawer storage was non existent. The general decor was tired and outdated. Gold plated taps in the bathroom just do not do it for me. The first night we opted for a meal in the dining room. The food can only be described as over elaborate and pretentious and very expensive. With wine starting at about £40 a bottle we decided not to bother. The menu did not change all the time we were there. For the other nights we ate at the pub down the road, much better food and much better value. We would not return to this hotel.

Great place to stay
We had a great time at Charlton house. The staff were friendly and efficient. The spa facilities also great.
The room was lovely (Folly). Very quiet and luxurious.
The only criticism would be that service was slow with the evening meal. We needed to ask for the wine menu and water. Perhaps I'm just impatient! The wine, when it came, was poured straight out on arrival, no tasting. A small thing but when you're paying over a ton for a meal...
My main was great (belly pork) however my wife found her fish to be a little bland.

Charlton house room
Although the room was large and the bed itself very comfortable the decor was dated, the in room facilities poor as the room bar had only two bottles of water in it. The TV was too small for size of the room. Access to the bathroom was up a small flight of stairs although the towels were of a good size and quality..
