Good place to go
Very friendly and helpful staff clean and comfortable accommodation
Bus stops outside very handy for Durham centre and all stops to Newcastle.
Staff friendly and helpful but some things they couldn't fix; like heating not on in room, one of the beers ran out and not replenished for a couple of days, no custard available, although listed on menu.. Breakfast good but tapas menu in evenings rather limiting. Evening menu limitations are the only reason I have answered No to stay again and recommend questions.
Cheap and comfortable
Very cheap with a decent breakfast.
For an overnight business stay it was fine.
Value For Money
Room comfortable but cold.
Breakfast very good. Access to Durham 10 minutes on the bus.
Very disappointing ......
On arrival at 11.15pm, pub was closed and nobody answering the phone.
I had to find another room in central Durham and got to bed an 1am Tuesday morning. I complained to Late Rooms, who were fantastic and managed to get in touch with someone at the pub by email as there was no answer on the phone. Pub rang me the following morning and after a brief discussion I decided to stay there for the remaining 3 nights. However, very disappointed as the single room I stayed in had a very strong damp musty smell, even on the clean bed linen, not the healthiest of environments to sleep in. On a positive note, the breakfast was very good.
Basic but good value
The only place near Durham I could find a triple room, making it by far the cheapest option.
The inn is old, the floor slopes and my bed creaked but we slept well. Breakfast was good and served quickly.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The room was basic but pleasant. The light in the main light in the bathroom did not work but there was a smaller light which was proficient. The room was comfortable. The breakfast was ok maybe adding tomatoes to it would have made it better. Over all a pleasant experience.
Kettle!!! Do you include it in your cleaning regime?
Horrendous experience with the kettle.
Made a badly needed drink only to find dark yellowish water coming out. I thought I will re boil but when I emptied the rest of the water some awful looking stuff were coming out and kept coming out. Finally opened the lid and found what looked like a few slices of bread, some of which have started growing it's own life form. I was almost sick. Sufficed to say - never took advantage of the alleged tea/coffee facility for the rest of the 2 day stay - was too traumatised with the alien coming out of the kettle. Lesson n learnt - always open the lid to fill kettle with water and not fill from the spout. Goes to show - lack of kettle after care, would suggest minimal attention to cleaning out the rooms.
Very cheap accommodation, 10-15 minute drive from Durham city center
When we checked in the lady at the counter was extremely unfriendly and couldn't even give us a receipt for our payment.
The room was okay except it being very loud with windows next to the street and in the evening some loud pub music. Breakfast was okay for the price and the lady who served breakfast was more friendly. The area of the hotel is not very nice, it looked like poor suburbs of Durham with no attractions, good restaurant or anything worth seeing/doing nearby.
