Reviews - Graham Arms Hotel

2Visit England Assessed Hotel Ratings explained
English Street , Longtown, CA6 5SE
The Graham Arms is a former Coaching Inn and was built about 200 years ago. In days gone by, the hotel was an overnight coaching stop; the horses would be put to graze in the fields to the rear of the hotel (long since built on) or, rested overnight in the hotel stables before continuing their journey to Edinburgh or London. Once the coaches had been cleaned and serviced, they were "garaged" in one of the two coaching stables at the rear of the building.

The Graham Arms and Longtown make an ideal touring base for Scotland's Solway Coast & Border Regions, the English Lake District, Kielder Forest, Hadrian's Wall, romantic Gretna Green and of course the historic City of Carlisle.

The hotel has recently won an award for the second year running making us ‘Carlisle District and Eden Best Bar None Winners’ (Rural Catergory) for 2011 and 2012.

unprofessional
We booked 2 rooms, when we got there we only had one. The booked room was fine but the alternative room was awful. Saw no sight of anyone in charge. Hotel being run by barmaid.

Spot on
Friendly staff, excellent real ale (Cold Fell) Bar was lively & open until 1am.Evening meal was fine in dining room & reasonably priced. (Friend had the fish & chips & must admit the fish was very small) All other meals were good portions.Service was very good .Rooms clean & tidy & a good size . At last a hotel with a decent shower. Breakfast was spot on.

Friendly and Relaxed
Staff were very pleasant and were unruffled when having to cater without an oven which had decided to break down that day! Full English Breakfast was ok although the sausage could have been a lot better. I'm not sure it had much meat in it! Perhaps not their usual because of the oven problem.
We had the superior room. The room was spacious and not too hot and the bed was comfortable, so a good night's sleep. One complaint, the towels were ridiculously small for a superior / bridal room! They should upgrade them from (small) standard bath to bath sheet immediately.
Point to note - there is a steep staircase immediately to the right, off a small flat area, as you leave your room!
overall, fine for an overnight stay.
