Parking is always going to be a problem due to location.
Feel the staff could have been more helpful with more useful local information, not just a map pointing to areas which were not suitable for overnight parking. At the front of the hotel the rooms have lots of noise from other local bars.
Couldn't be bettered
This hotel was perfect for our 2 night stay.
A beautiful medieval building where we climbed a steep and narrow staircase to our lovely room. There was fresh drinking water each day plus the usual tea, coffee and biscuits, a good shower and comfortable bed. When our left-over pizza from the excellent Italian restaurant downstairs went missing with the cleaner the next day, another one was instantly cooked fresh for our lunch, which we enjoyed outside in the sun, with a beer, looking at the wonderful cathedral. Every one of the staff could not have been more helpful, morning, noon and night. Thank you for a great stay. (Anyone with a car should note that there is no room for hotel parking, so unload and go and park elsewhere.)
Friendly and well run hotel
Excellent in all respects the quality of staff was notably good.
Breakfasts well above average. Great position.
We enjoyed our short stay, the room was quirky ,you have to be slim and fit to climb the very very old steps. The Italian food at the in-house restaurant was excellent.
A Night in Wells
This small hotel situated in the heart of the beautiful City of Wells with an intimate view of the beautiful Cathedral was a lucky find for me.
The whole experience proved to be a delight and I can safely say the food was better than most alleged 5 Star hotels. Dinner was well prepared, succulent and served with good grace. The portions were generous, eschewing the unappealing modern trend of offering tiny portions on large white plates - what the experts I believe term: nouvelle cuisine. The characterful bedroom offered a sumptuous four poster bed with deep welcoming pillows. For those who are prepared to overlook the challenge of finding somewhere to park overnight, I have no hesitation in recommending this delightful little hotel. That said, the walk to car park was worth the effort.
A great place with loads of atmosphere. Well-placed for exploring town.
We had a great stay here - though you do need to be fairly fit & not too plump to get to the top rooms.
On-site restaurant looks good though we didn't try it. Parking a bit of a pain but easily sortable. Pleasant staff and a really good bed!
Great character, lovely service and amazing views.
incredible view of wells cathedral which we could see from our bed!wonderful characterful place
incredible views of magnificent cathedral from our room, friendly staff, excellent food and service, wonderful location and building full of character and charm
Wells for Christmas
The hotel has very limited parking which is in the pub car park opposite.
Access to the hotel was only marred by the town being closed off for the reindeer parade. The hotel had good old fashioned character and I would certainly stay there again.
Worst stay in a while
Dreadful staircase, unclean room, shower with no pressure and freezing/scolding temperatures.
Massively impractical for work but not somewhere I would ever stay again for leisure either.
