The fire alarm went off !
The fire alarm went off around 9am ( on a Saturday morning). There were no instructions from staff about why or what to do other than one person outside the front exit pointing to the rallying point in a car park round the back of the hotel . No-one from the staff came round to the car park to inform us what was happening . Guests made up their own minds to go back into the hotel when we heard the fire alarm stop. The receptionist ( and other staff we couldn't see eg some kitchen staff?)remained at her desk while all guests were made to exit ( many of us in pyjamas and not much else). When I asked at check out why we had all had to evacuate on a really freezing morning I was told that it "looked like the steam from a customer's shower had set the alarm off". I hope that this does not happen again, although it seems possible it must have happened in the past - fire alarms in global hotel chains should be sophisticated enough to differentiate between steam and smoke!

Tiny room
Location was ideal as only yards away from the restaurant we were dining at. As I approached the door to my room which itself was about two thirds the size of a normal door it should have given me an insight into what would behold me as I entered the room. The bed took up the whole living area and I found myself having a few drinks in the toilet before leaving for dinner. Also the room was boiling as was the hotel.

Clean and perfectly located for city centre life
This was good accommodation, clean and very comfortable bed. The rooms are quite compact, but I left my Hula Hoop at home so it was all I needed. It is a little 'tired' round the edges, but the staff were all lovely, accommodating, cheerful and happy (which goes a long way in my book!). The only thing I really didn't like, was the windows... You can't open them sufficiently to let enough air in, and at times my room was too hot. I like to be able to sleep with the window open, I accept that the street noise would bother some, but you're in a City so that is to be expected and you soon shut off from that noise. I would use the Mecure again.

A Saturday night!
We arrived at 3:30pm to be lucky enough to obtain the last parking space in the hotel car park. A bit of warning to guests on the lack of parking would have been nice. On a whole the hotel is ideal for a city centre night out, but I would say that value for money at the rates they charge, could be better found elsewhere. The double room on the second floor was tiny, very cramped. The cleanliness of the room could have been better, for example the window ledge has a layer of dust that must have taken a month to gather! On arrival the room had no heating, after complaining to the reception twice (1st time had no effect) they discovered that all the heating in the hotel was off! Should never have happened. Personally, on next visit I would ask to see the room before paying.

Good location but otherwise not very nice
Harrassed reception staff trying their best but not able to cope, a clean but tired room, bad TV reception and a patchy breakfast (good fruit and yogurt but the hot buffet was too greasy).
The checking out experience was certainly made more interesting by the presence on the foyer of a group of lads (one assumes residents) noisily caning back the lagers- at 9 a.m!
On the plus side it's in a good location very near Queen Street station and with lots and lots of great eateries, bars and clubs on hand.
The following night I got a room in The Roxburgh in Edinburgh for only £12 more - chalk and cheese. The Roxburgh's a class act.
