3Visit England Assessed Hotel Ratings explained
Brompton Road , Gillingham, ME7 5QT
The King Charles Hotel is a privately-owned, modern, 98 bedroom hotel. It features a cosy, comfortable restaurant and first class conference and banqueting facilities.

The Hotel is set in the heart of Medway and Maritime Kent and is just 2 minutes away from Historic Rochester with it's Castle, Cathedral and Dickens Museum. Other sites of interest in Medway include Chatham Historic Dockyard, Fort Amherst, the Royal Engineers Museum and Dicken's World. Central London is just 30 miles away as is the Channel Tunnel and Ferry Ports. Other places of interest include Bluewater Shopping Centre, Leeds Castle and Canterbury. We are ideal as a base for exploring both Kent and London and make an ideal stopover for coaches heading to and from Europe. very average
when you first drive up to the hotel, it is like a very tired and dated building. once in the room, very disappointed that 1980s pine still persists! very glad we booked this on late rooms as would not have paid the full price. breakfast was very nice with attentive staff.

Friendly staff but hotel quite run down, could do with a facelift
Staff very friendly. Hotel could do with a facelift and replacement towels and bedding. They were clean but some of the towels were a bit ragged and the sheets and duvet covers have seen better days. They did look clean but looked like they needed ironing, they were wrinkled along with the vallance round the bottom of the beds. Bathroom was far from spotless, round the taps had not been cleaned properly and sink, shower and toilet all needed replacing. The flush kept getting stuck. Breakfast fine though sausages were terrible. All just a bit run down. There was a lovely outside area in the middle of the hotel but didn't get chance to use it.

Two night stay
Comfortable bed and bedding, room could do with a bit of paint here and there, this was being done in other rooms so a refurb plan is in hand. Public areas good with very pleasant and helpful staff, reception staff were pleased to help with anything, taxis etc. and smart.
Hotel is close to all town amenities and reasonably quiet.

my stay
My stay was 'forced' on me due to the weather, as I had travelled before in those conditions and ended up spending 15hours stuck in my vehicle. I couldn't have made a better choice with this hotel. The staff were friendly helpful and the accommodation was superb. I have no complaints whatsoever

I've used this hotel as it's convenient for my business need. Also there's a shortage of hotels in the area. I've stayed here three times each time for only one night and the cleaniness is inconsistent. Rooms are tired and scruffy. The beds are comfy but not always clean. I complained on my second visit as following my routine check of bed linen and towels, I discovered a blood stain on one of the pillow cases. I was moved to one of their honeymoon suites. Linen here was clean, but again the room was equally tired.
On the plus side, the food is good. I stay clear of any meat options (to be safe) and I've been satisfied with my 3 evening meals. The breakfast is ok too. Although, their orange juice tastes as if it has been watered down too much - there were similar mutterings among the other guests on my last morning there.
