About the hotel
The Lord Lister Hotel in Hitchin is family run hotel, with a warm and friendly atmosphere, excellent service. Husband and wife team Nick and Josie Raviele, with more than 30 years experience in the hospitality business, run the Lord Lister Hotel with the continental philosophy of 'mi casa es su casa' which provides guests and staff with the relaxed family orientated atmosphere that we believe is missing from the great British hotel experience. This 'grade II' listed building has a charming character all of its own: all rooms have their own style in keeping with the hotel's quaint and comfortable surroundings.
All the Hotel's beautifully furnished rooms have en-suite bath or shower-rooms, Freeview television, extra pillows and blankets, hair dryers, tea and coffee hospitality tray and direct dial telephones. For that special occasion there is also a four poster bedroom. Flowers, wine or chocolates can be provided on request. The Hotel facilities include a cozy bar to relax in overlooking the patio area in the garden, a resident's satellite TV lounge and free wireless internet available throughout the hotel for guests use. The hotel can also provide meeting facilities on request. Our Hotel is centrally located just 2 minutes walk from historic Hitchin town centre, a historic market town with cobbled streets and market square flanked by beautiful buildings. Hitchin town is a hub of social activities with a local theatre, football ground, varied music scene and regular beer and music festivals so there is something for everyone. A shopper's paradise, there are dozens of independent shops and boutiques as well as the high-street names.

Not for me
Bit shabby and musty.
Strong smell of fag smoke on ground floor and stairway first thing in the morning due to owner and friend smoking right outside the open back door possibly reflects attitude towards paying customers. My room was small for a double, bathroom not too bad though, everything just a bit creaky and rickety. Sorry.
The most friendly hotel I have ever stayed at!
Having a wedding to attend we booked for the weekend at the Lord Lister hotel myself and my wife and 16 month old son were welcomed with a warm smile and friendly chat by the owners and as we had arrived early on the Friday we were pointed in the direction of town with restaurants where the hotel had negotiated discount, which was very nice and we ended up at zizzis for an early dinner but on the way back we got caught in the rain and our pram was soaked but the kind owner said he would keep it for us safe and somewhere where it would dry out rather than put back wet in our car which I thought was more than most places would have offered.
The breakfast was of course a full English for my wife and I and they made toast and scrambled egg for my son straight away before we got our food which was very kind. On our last day I had a lovely chat about the joys of children and met the owners daughter who is a lovely lady and after saying our good byes we left but I was surprised to get a call the next day I thought something was wrong but it turned out we had left my sons favourite book under the bed and to my surprise they had called to say they would sent it to me in the post and its for all these very reasons I am writing my first every review I would recommend everyone coming the Hitchin to stay here large rooms, central location. Knowledgeable and lovely friendly staff and owners!
