Not worth £250 a night
The castle exterior and four poster bed give the appearance of luxury hotel but the service at check in was the worst first impression ever experienced at a hotel.
Having lived abroad and travelled extensively, I was shocked at how poorly we were received. When we arrived at midday the reception staff simply stated our room was not available for the early check in, which we requested, and they did not know when it would be available. They offered no greeting when we walked into the room, no place to sit and wait for our room and when the empty restaurant said they were not able to accommodate us until 3pm, we found the whole situation most unhelpful. There was no offer of refreshment and I had a broken foot at the time, and was in an airboot, they just would not help us with where we could temporarily store our luggage or anything. My Husband and I had flown over from Singapore for the wedding, which started at 2pm, and my Husband was desparate to get ready before the service as he was an Usher. The reception staff seemed simply unsympathetic to the situation and cold with their responses.
Luckily the room was ready within forty five mins and we did make the wedding on time but having had a stress free trip all the way from Singapore, we were really taken aback by the abrupt and hostile service of the female receptionist. They were also unhelpful when my Husband tried to book a taxi in advance to make sure we could leave on time in the morning for the airport. The rest of the service team were lovely, especially Charlie the bartender.
The only other let down was the room service was sandwiches only, the first time we ordered, they got our order wrong. The second time we ordered exactly the same thing and it came with a bun instead of the bread advertised and cheesecake instead of crisps or chips...with no notification before arriving at the door. The second room service was under par. We would never recommend people to stay at Peckforton, even though the grounds are wonderful for weddings and wedding photos, the whole experience left a stressful and distasteful impression. It was the opposite of relaxing and not luxurious in the room at all. The room was musty.
The communal toilet was far away from the wedding breakfast and tough to access with a broken foot. I've never complained about a hotel before and I have to say the positives were, there was good hairdryer and toiletries in the room. The best was comfortable and the room was a good size.
