Still a great experience
Our room was very nice with a superb view of the keep.
My bed was uncomfortable and creaky. Quantity and quality of breakfast was very good but due to buffet servery was barely warm by the time it got to my plate. It might be best to go to the great hall for breakfast when it opens at 8am. On the plus side, you are in the centre of Durham with free parking outside the cathedral for your stay. We took advantage of the free castle tour (normally £5 each) and our guide Chris was very informative in a well paced and lighthearted manner. Despite the first comments I really enjoyed my stay.
Whirlwind tour of rainy Durham
Thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay, particularly breakfasting Great Hall.
