Our inspector loved "The delicious dinner in the oak-panelled restaurant with panoramic views over Lake Windermere."
Holbeck Ghyll is ideally situated for exploring the attractions of the breathtaking Lake District. Built in the 19th century, the house was bought as a hunting lodge in 1888 by Lord Lonsdale, then one of the richest men in the country. Known as the 'Yellow Earl', he ensured that his name went down in history by bequeathing the famous Lonsdale Belt to boxing. His lodge was set in the incomparable landscape of the Lake District, overlooking one of England's loveliest stretches of water - Windermere.
Relaxation at Holbeck Ghyll can take the form of walking or boating, golf or bird watching, or indulging in a range of facilities and treatments available at the hotel's own health spa.
Holbeck Ghylls restaurant has held a Michelin Star for 10 consecutive years and was awarded the Good Food Guide Wine List of the year title in 2009.
