Very Budget 1*
Stayed in basement room over night.
Regular noise presumed from passing trains. Comfortable bed but wife had to climb over me to reach bathroom as bed directly against wall on one side. Legs hit WC door so had to leave door open when using toilet. Shallow wash basin with projecting cabinet/mirror above so when cleaning teeth over basin hit head on cabinet/mirror. Valve on bath tap seized so could not have shower. Disappointing as we have previously stayed a night in Hotel on the other side of square which was not affected by trains and was generally better. Would not stay at Excelsior again based on this experience.
Excellent value for money
I was concerned about what we should expect as the rate was reasonable, compared to other hotels.
We were very pleasantly surprised. The room was small-ish, with the bed taking up the vast proporton of the floor space. The bed was very comfortable and we slept very well. The bathroom was small but adequate. There was no reception or bar in the hotel which was not a problem for us as we were only needing somewhere to sleep after a night at the theatre. Other people might expect more facilities. All in all, perfectly adequate and good value for money.
