About the hotel
When William III came to Goodwood he used to come to The Fox Goes Free to refresh the Royal Hunting Party on their breaks from London. The Fox Goes Free prides itself on the preservation of many of the original features, including, the bread oven, inglenook fireplaces, low beamed ceilings and brick floors. With this and the good range of real ales, fine wines and our extensive menu it will make your visit to a memorable one.
Goodwood is at the bottom of the South Downs, the pub is set in the beautiful countryside of the Goodwood Estate, close to the Weald and Downland (Singleton) Open Air Museum, Goodwood racecourse (for Goodwood Ladies Day) and Goodwood motor racing course (home of the infamous Festival of Speed and Revival) and the West Dean Gardens. A Sculpture Park and Golf Course are also close by. The nearest City to Goodwood is Chichester; a beautiful, quaint city boasting an impressive Gothic Cathedral and a large variety of shops and entertainment. Whether you’re in Goodwood and Chichester to enjoy a break in the countryside, to visit the sites of Chichester or to join in one of the events held at the Goodwood Estate, stay at The Fox Goes Free and enjoy the beautiful countryside surrounding us in the peaceful setting of the South Downs in West Sussex. Didn't see a Fox but apart from that very good!
Lovely location, beautiful old building, comfortable bedroom and, despite the bendy walls everything worked fine in the bathroom.
The food that I had was faultless service sharp. Got good advice about duration and direction for a morning walk. Go there if you are in the area.
Lovely little place - shame about the shower!
We stayed at the hotel prior to visiting Goodwood for the day/evening and loved the area, surroundings etc.
The customer service was good, albeit nobody seemed to totally know what they were doing and we were waiting quite a while to be checked in/out. The room was lovely, shabby chic, very clean and a good size with decent storage. Only issue we had was the shower which looked like 1980s electric job and made the most terrible noise when used - like it was about to explode. The water coming out was like a tiny dribble which isn't helpful when washing long thick hair. Explained this at checkout to not very interested staff. Breakfast was good, nothing special but did the job. Nice place but could do with a few alterations to be great.
