About the hotel

We hope you will enjoy the leisurely pace at which the hotel operates. You can enjoy the ever changing colours of the mountains and forest, the tumbling and rushing waterfalls on our doorstep, the daffodils in spring, the lush gardens in the summer. At bedtime relax in total peace after an excellent dinner.

You could leave the hotel and walk all day without taking your car, visiting one of the several waterfalls or gold and copper mines that nestle within the forest around the hotel, fish the salmon and sea trout on our own stretch of the Mawddach river. We are not completely away from civilisation with just 8 Mins to the old County town of Dolgellau set at the foothills of the Cadair Idris Mountain range just hidden from view but visible from the precipice walk (one of the most memorable in the UK) which overlooks the hotel. Or tour a little further afield to visit the beaches or the high mountains and castles of beautiful North Wales. With the Welsh name of 'Eryri' meaning ' the place of the eagles', Snowdonia National Park is an area of outstanding natural beauty covering 838 square miles and containing some of the most magnificent scenery in the country. This puts the hotel in a prime location for access to Europes premier mountain bike courses at Coed Y Brenin Forest Centre, Nant Gwrtheyrn National DH track, Betws-y-Coed, Penmachno and the newly opened Down Hill Mountain bike Centre in Blaenau Ffestiniog all being within 30 miles of the house. To unwind, enjoy beautiful village walks with local waterfalls, or playtime on the gently shelving sandy Blue Flag beaches just 15 mins away at Barmouth, or 36 miles from Mt Snowdon itself. We do accept well behaved insured dogs in some rooms(it will appear as an optional extra) please contact the hotel with your requirements, we are happy to help, but will refuse or make an additional charge if you try to check into the hotel with your dog without contacting us first, since we have limits placed on us.

Exellent location but poor attention to detail

The room itself was clean and the bed comfortable enough but basic maintenance had not been attended to (e.g.

broken rooflight blind). Dinner was poor - the menu descriptions bear little resemblance to the food presented, the cheeseboard was both expensive and meagre and the wine frankly bad. Breakfast was little better - while service was prompt the food was not great. The scrambled eggs in particular were undercooked and unappetising, and the promised chives were not included for either of the people that asked for them on 2 separate mornings. Quite how this hotel won a 'Taste of Wales' award in 2014 (according to a plaque on the front of the building) is a mystery!

Plas Dolmelynllyn Country Hotel

Quirky and interesting building with very friendly staff and owner who enjoys taking time to tell guests about the history of the hotel.

Food is spot on and reasonably priced, room was first class. Will be staying there again in the future.
